You will write and commission informative and influential editorial content across print and digital channels. This includes compelling and engaging longer features, shorter opinion pieces and tasting notes with the potential to contribute larger vintage reports if based in a relevant wine region.

You will promote Decanter as the leading global authority on wine by embracing modern, multi-format storytelling.

You will collaborate with commercial teams to support brand growth and revenue opportunities in the North American market.

You will be responsible for North American wine regions, and will build relationships with generic wine bodies, producers, contributors and judges from North America.

This is a strategic role that demands editorial and journalistic excellence combined with wine tasting experience, commercial awareness, and a thoughtful approach to audience development in an evolving wine landscape.

What You'll Do

You will report to the Content Director

  • Ensure your and contributor writing on North America follows content plans and strategies.
  • Use your developed palate to taste wines from North America critically and write convincingly and accessibly.
  • Maintain the highest levels of integrity, accuracy and editorial standards in all writing and editing.
  • Ensure accuracy of writing and editing to minimize reliance on proofreading.
  • Be a trusted voice for North American wine in the industry and among consumers.
  • Maintain Decanter's presence in the North American market to ensure our reputation is the leading authority on wine.
  • Build and nurture a network of North American contributors while exploring opportunities for multi-format content (including video, audio, or social-first pieces) to expand Decanter's digital presence.
  • Develop relationships with wine bodies, producers, contributors and other industry partners in North America.
  • Use audience analytics and performance data to inform content strategy, increase reach, and identify the latest trends in consumer behavior and wine preferences.
  • Speak/judge on North America at Decanter events.
  • Collaborate with commercial and marketing teams to create partnership opportunities and growth within North America.
Experience That Will Put You Ahead Of The Curve
  • 3+ years of experience writing high-quality engaging, relevant content.
  • 3+ years of experience with digital content approaches, including websites, social and newsletters.
  • Excellent wine knowledge, with tasting experience, and expertise of North American wine regions.
  • Someone with wine knowledge of WSET Level 3 or equivalent (ie Wine Scholar Guild or sommelier qualification).
  • Journalistic and editorial background, with the ability to write high-quality, engaging content.
  • Understanding of the Decanter consumer and the content required for each channel to ensure the brand's strategic needs are met.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to translate editorial strength into audience growth and business opportunities.
  • Excellent industry contacts and networking skills.
  • Knowledge of print format and production processes.
