About the company:

X is Alphabet’s moonshot factory with a mission of inventing and launching “moonshot” technologies that could someday make the world a radically better place. We are a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs who build and launch technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Our goal: 10x impact on the world’s most intractable problems, not just 10% improvement. We approach projects that have the aspiration and riskiness of research with the speed and ambition of a startup. As an innovation engine, X focuses on repeatedly turning breakthrough-technology ideas into the foundations for large, sustainable businesses.

About the Team:

X-Operations is responsible for creating the environment and conditions for X and Xers to thrive. This collection of storytellers, talent attractors, data scientists, operations experts, and organizational architects help build the moonshot factory and support X’s scientists and entrepreneurs as they create positive, world changing technologies and businesses.

About the Role:

Factory Operations is the practical and cultural glue that binds teams across X together. As an operations generalist, you will focus on improving operations so the moonshot factory runs as efficiently and effectively as possible without sacrificing our radical creativity. You will be called on to lead complex, factory-wide initiatives, while managing multiple projects simultaneously.  A persuasive communicator, you will be regularly called on to represent X with business partners, stakeholders, and internal leaders. You will also be a steward of X’s culture and play a key role in ensuring that every Xer understands our unique approach to innovation.

This position calls for a highly-organized, self-motivated team player who is passionate about technology and innovation and very comfortable with change and ambiguity.  X is a space for exploration and experimentation so we’re looking for someone with a bias to action, a willingness to learn and love for forging ahead into uncharted territory.

The role is based in Mountain View, CA on a campus full of multi-disciplinary labs and creative spaces, which requires you to be in-person.

How you will make 10x impact:

  • No-task-is-too-big-or-too-small mindset: On any given day be prepared to oscillate between physical tasks like moving a pallet and exec-level decisions like exec level decisions like leasing a warehouse. You have the confidence and skills for the big visionary work, as well as the patience and attention to detail for the small details that get you there. We’re looking for the Shane Battier, the No-Stat-All-Star, of the X team.
  • Culture champion: No single person can take responsibility for company’ culture and values. You will be an excellent role-model of X’s culture and inspire others at X to practice these values too.
  • Trustworthy X representative: Trusted to understand and hence represent X’s culture to others. Trusted to be able to engage and show up appropriately with senior leaders, both internal and external.
  • Surf the waves of process and chaos: Operationalization of moonshots requires clear eyed assessment of existing processes, the ability to build new ones, and unwind old ones. You are willing to disrupt the status quo when you see it as a smart risk, in the name of world-changing outcomes.
  • Swiss army knife: Be ready to do anything that drives value for X's teams and projects. If ambiguity and a lack of role definition excites you, this could be a fit.
  • Amplifier of and inspiration to others: Scale your own impact by empowering and inspiring others to stretch themselves.

What you should have:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 1-3+ years experience as a program manager with executive level support and engagement or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience creating and leading high functioning teams, and creating clear and compelling cultures
  • Experience integrating equity, diversity and inclusion processes, practices and programs into you and yours teams work
  • Strong communication and analytical/data modeling skills
  • Delivery through influence and demonstrable stakeholder management, including at senior levels
  • Excellent discretion and sensitivity to confidentiality
  • Curiosity and love of learning are essential. Ladder climbers need not apply.
  • A sense of humor, and ability to find joy in your work

It'd be great if you had these:

  • Perhaps you studied International relations, or Art?
  • Maybe you served in the Marine Corp Infantry, or as a Naval Aviator?
  • You might have dreamt of being an Astronaut, Surgical Technician or a concert pianist?
  • Either way you are ready to bring world-class expertise into frame for X.
  • You have an ability to design, plan, and execute with meticulous attention to detail no matter if it's for teams of 1 or 1,000.
  • You show up with diplomacy, and are natural at managing pressure.
  • You’ve excelled in roles that were in service to others, required tact in communication and demeanor, and had high stakes.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $130,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
