Responsibilities
- Drafting legal documents including complaints, pleadings, motions, and subpoenas. This requires a strong understanding of legal terminology and procedures, as well as excellent writing skills.
- Preparing and filing court documents, such as motions and pleadings, and ensuring that they are filed on time and in accordance with court rules and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in the case, including opposing counsel.
- Managing case files and organizing documents and exhibits for trial. This includes keeping track of deadlines, organizing discovery documents, and ensuring that all exhibits are properly marked and prepared for presentation in court.
- Assist attorneys during depositions, hearings, and trials. This may include preparing witnesses for testimony, organizing exhibits for presentation in court, and assisting with cross-examination.
- Conducting legal research to gather relevant information related to the case. This includes researching relevant case law, statutes, and regulations, and analyzing the legal implications of the information gathered.
- Summarizing depositions, legal documents, and trial testimony. This involves distilling complex legal information into concise and easily digestible summaries that can be used by attorneys in court.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years previous experience working as a Paralegal on insurance defense cases (transportation, dram shop, premises liability, etc.) from beginning to end
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and regulations
- Strong writing and research skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in using legal research tools, such as LexisNexis and Westlaw
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and other relevant software
- Have a masterful understanding of the litigation flow, as well as demonstrate the appropriate urgency and initiative in performing tasks that advance the cases toward resolution
