Job Summary & Responsibilities
The Paralegal/Legal Support Specialist will report to an Associate General Counsel in the Legal Department, supporting the Company's Health & Benefits (H&B) business. This role is responsible for: (1) the intake and processing of all new legal matters; (2) ownership of the subpoena and garnishment process; (3) ownership of regulatory licensing process, and (4) supporting the attorneys in the Legal Department on a variety of other assignments under the supervision of the attorneys.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • New matter intake:
    • Receipt of service of process for all legal matters and customer disputes, including new lawsuits, attorney demand letters, garnishments, and regulatory inquiries;
    • Conduct first level review of all new matters and determine whether to handle it directly or assign to another member of the legal team.
  • Process and respond to subpoenas and customer disputes:
    • Determine subpoena's validity and scope;
    • Gather and review responsive information and documents;
    • Determine the appropriate response and draft response letters; and
  • Provide litigation support, as needed.
  • Provide regulatory licensing support:
    • Manage the company's TPA licensing and renewal process across all applicable jurisdictions;
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to collect information, complete questionnaires, and obtain supporting documentation required for licensing filings;
    • Partner with external licensing consultants to prepare, review, and timely submit renewal applications and other regulatory filings;
    • In collaboration with our consultants, monitor renewal deadlines and track filing status to help ensure continuous compliance;
    • Organize and maintain licensing records, correspondence, and supporting documentation; and
  • Prepare and file the company's state registrations and annual reports.
  • Manage, process, and track all legal-related invoices.
  • Recommend and implement best practices for case management, document production, and other legal department processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Minimum required:
  • Bachelor's degree (paralegal degree or certification preferred). Non-degree paralegal certificate with commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 5-7 years of paralegal or legal experience in a functionally equivalent environment. Prefer experience in financial services handling transactional, securities and/or retirement law matters.

Skills & Abilities:
  • Professional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects at any given time.
  • Willingness to learn new areas of law.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office© (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and ability to learn multiple new software programs.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with contract management systems.

$40.00-$48.00/hr
