Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (aka a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. a16z has $90B under management across multiple funds. We’ve invested in companies like Affirm, Airbnb, Coinbase, Databricks, Figma, GitHub, Instacart, Pinterest, Roblox, Stripe, and Substack.

a16z speedrun is the firm’s program to invest in, and help, new startups. We run a 2x/year program that spans 12 weeks, with dozens of startups working out of a16z’s offices in SF and LA. So far we've invested in over 150 startups with $180M+ in capital deployed.

The Role

Speedrun is Andreessen Horowitz’s flagship program that invests in new startups and partners with founders to inflect their growth with full-stack operational support. We run two batches per year, working with 150+ companies annually. As the program scales, execution must scale with it.

As the Events & Community Marketing Partner, you’ll own the day-to-day execution that powers speedrun’s operations and founder experience. This role is the operational heartbeat of the program, and you will be accountable for ensuring every session, communication, and founder interaction runs smoothly and to the highest standard. You’ll take full ownership of logistics and stakeholder alignment across a16z, and serve as the primary point of contact for founders.

This is not a task-based role. It's for someone who thrives in ambiguity, anticipates needs, and finds solutions before problems arise. You’ll bring structure, foresight, and agility to a program that demands precision.

This role requires an in-office presence 5 days a week in our San Francisco, CA office.

To join our team, you should be excited to:
  • Own end-to-end program strategy and execution
this means planning and producing sessions, meetings, and events, so everything runs on time and founders have a great experience
  • Partner closely with founders
you’ll run point on founder logistics and communications, collecting updates, confirming details, and sending clear reminders and key information
  • Deliver a best-in-class community experience
you’ll create a streamlined participant onboarding experience and keep community channels and lists organized across Slack and other platforms
  • Own vendor partnerships and production
you’ll source, negotiate, and manage vendors end to end, owning budgets, timelines, and on-site execution to deliver first-class programming and events
  • Lead staffing and run-of-show
you’ll source, schedule, and manage event staff and volunteers, coordinate day-of roles and responsibilities, and ensure on-site execution stays smooth from load-in to wrap
  • Drive strategy and execution of new event initiatives
you’ll take the lead on new event ideas from concept to execution, shaping the experience and seeing them through from start to finish
  • Run the operations
you’ll set agendas, capture decisions, drive follow-ups, and maintain shared updates across Notion, Airtable, and Google Workspace to keep founders and the team aligned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Have 4-6 years of experience in program management or operations or events
  • Experience managing vendors end-to-end (sourcing, contracting, timelines, budgets, and on-site production)
  • Proven ability to source, build, and maintain strong external vendor relationships to deliver high-quality programming and events
  • Experience recruiting, training, scheduling, and managing event staff (e.g., ambassadors, contractors, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a high-touch founder experience through clear communication, strong follow-through, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Are exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Comfortable with public speaking, facilitating groups, and managing room dynamics during sessions and events
  • Thrive in ambiguity and bring calm, clarity, and structure to fast-changing environments
  • Are fluent across tools like google workspace, notion, airtable, and slack
  • Have a natural sense of foresight and problem-solving, spotting issues early and fixing them fast
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment that rewards ownership and speed
  • Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $176,000 - $205,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
