About Echo Base

Echo Base is a privately funded investment platform focused on special situations and strategic opportunities within the digital asset ecosystem. We acquire, finance, and build companies where our operational expertise and capital can unlock outsized value. Our team combines institutional investment discipline with crypto-native insight to identify and execute on complex opportunities across the industry’s most dynamic segments.

Role Overview

Echo Base is seeking a highly motivated investment professional to join its Investments team, focused on distressed and special situations across the digital asset ecosystem. The role is suited for a senior investment professional with deep buy-side experience in event-driven, distressed, or control-oriented investing who is comfortable operating as an individual contributor with significant autonomy. The individual will play a central role in sourcing, evaluating, structuring, and executing investments, working closely with Echo Base’s operating, legal, and restructuring resources through diligence, transaction execution, and post-close transition. This is a hands-on role with end-to-end deal ownership in complex, time-sensitive situations.

Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and execute distressed and special situations investment opportunities, including control acquisitions, claims-based strategies, and structured capital solutions
  • Lead diligence efforts across financial, legal, operational, and technical dimensions in coordination with internal operating teams and external advisors
  • Analyze capital structures, claims priority, and recovery outcomes across a range of restructuring and liquidation scenarios
  • Build and maintain detailed financial, recovery, and downside models, including liquidation value, salvage value, and short-duration return outcomes
  • Actively assess and execute opportunities involving distressed claims, including sourcing, pricing, and evaluating risk/reward across instruments
  • Support transaction structuring, negotiation, and execution, including coordination and review of legal documentation
  • Prepare investment committee materials, including investment thesis, valuation, value-creation plan, risk factors and mitigants, and exit scenarios
  • Support post-close transition and value-creation initiatives, including restructurings, governance changes, and operational stabilization
  • Own the realization of investment through strategic sales, earn outs, secondaries or other creative structures that meet Echo Base’s threshold returns.

Qualifications

  • 7–12 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, credit, or special situations, with substantial buy-side experience
  • Deep experience in distressed, special situations, event-driven, or opportunistic investing, ideally with a control-oriented mandate
  • Strong understanding of the mechanics of trading public and private claims, including sourcing, pricing, documentation, settlement, and recovery analysis
  • Direct exposure to catalyst-driven situations such as insolvencies, restructurings, founder disputes, regulatory actions, security incidents, failed financings, or broken M&A processes
  • Advanced understanding of bankruptcy, restructuring processes, claims trading, and recovery analysis
  • Excellent financial modeling skills with emphasis on recoveries, liquidation value, salvage value, and short-duration outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in unique, fast-moving situations with incomplete information
  • Comfort owning transactions end-to-end, including sourcing, diligence, structuring, execution, and post-close involvement
  • Well-developed professional network across restructuring groups at major banks, advisory firms, and distressed-focused funds
  • Experience in digital assets, crypto, or blockchain-based businesses preferred, but not required

Profile

  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and intellectually rigorous
  • Commercially minded with strong judgment under uncertainty
  • Self-directed and comfortable working in a lean, high-responsibility environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
