Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for various payroll processes, including providing assistance in inquiries, policies and calculations and as an escalation resource for processing. This role supports ensuring payroll accuracy through detailed review, reconciliation, and validation of payroll data prior to and after payroll processing. The Payroll Specialist partners with HR, managers, and employees to resolve payroll issues and maintains payroll data integrity with payroll and timekeeping system.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

 

*Completes processing of biweekly payroll by managing workflow to ensure payroll transactions are processed timely and accurately.

* Perform routine payroll audits for accuracy and payroll compliance.

* Review timecards for completeness and accuracy prior to payroll processing.

* Validate overtime, premium pay, shift differentials, and on-call pay.
* Respond to payroll inquiries related to pay discrepancies, taxes and deductions.
* Audits off cycle checks prior to processing.
* Processes special adjustments and corrections.
* Creates reports as requested by manager or business partners to support audits.
* Responds to all audit's requests, internal and external.

* Investigates outstanding unclaimed property and payroll checks.

* Processes accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc.).

* Documents and updating payroll procedures and processing checklists

* Interprets Wage Garnishments and calculate appropriate deductions to be withheld

* Prepares W-2Cs for employees.

* Posts processing report downloads and distribution to various partners

* Conducts audits before and after processing

* Educate employees and managers on payroll processes and deadlines.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Associates degree in accounting or business administration with a focus in accounting.

Experience: Three (3) years payroll experience with audit or validation responsibilities. Experience with California payroll practices in healthcare, union or high-volume payroll environment.

License/Certification: None

 

KNOWLEDGE

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $39.43 to $49.29
