What You Will Achieve
In this role, you will:
- Process payroll for assigned business units, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues promptly.
- Provide support to employees regarding payroll inquiries and issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance payroll processes and systems.
- Prepare and maintain accurate payroll records and reports.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to payroll.
- Contribute to moderately complex projects, managing your own time and developing short-term work plans.
- Apply skills and discipline knowledge to work contributions within the team.
- Make decisions to resolve moderately complex problems, working within guidelines and policies, and handle ambiguous situations as part of the team.
- Work under general supervision, follow established procedures and instructions, solve loosely defined problems, and occasionally review the work of colleagues in a mentorship role, using judgment to modify methods and techniques.
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
- BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience, or MBA/MS with any years of experience, or Associate's degree with at least 6 years of experience, or High School Diploma (or equivalent) with at least 8 years of relevant experience
- Proficient in using payroll software and systems
- Experience supporting Canadian payroll, including knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory deductions, and compliance requirements
- Strong knowledge of federal, state/provincial, and local payroll laws and regulations
- Experience with payroll tax compliance and reporting
- Numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate professionally in French, English and Spanish (written and verbal).
Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements):
- Experience with international payroll processes
- Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP)
- Experience with Workday or similar HRIS systems
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll processing
- Understanding of garnishments, levies, and other deductions
- Experience with payroll process improvement projects
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across the organization
- Adaptability and flexibility to manage changing priorities
- Strong team collaboration skills
- Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving and enhance productivity. Demonstrated curiosity for exploring how these tools can improve outcomes and understanding of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use
