The Physician Assistant (PA) in orthopedics will assist in medical and surgical care of orthopedic department patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting as outlined in the Principal Duties and Responsibilities below and will participate in all aspects of patient care as indicated. The PA will also have direct reporting responsibility to the Attending Physician of the respective patients for all evaluations and other duties performed. The Orthopedic PA will also be responsible to cover first assist on-call shifts for Operating Room to be evenly distributed between the physician assistants with on-call requirements across the surgical specialties and rotating coverage for holiday and high-volume event dates.
What You'll Do:
- Provide routine medical management of inpatient care including ordering of diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications (within the scope of the PA license) and nutrition, managing adjunctive care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and communication of treatment plans with orthopedic physician, nursing staff, and families.
- Manage discharge of patients with appropriate disposition, follow-up planning, adjunctive therapy management and education.
- Make assessment of emergency conditions and, in conjunction with attending physician, implement management surgery.
- Perform bedside History and Physical when needed.
- Initiate appropriate emergency care in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
- Function as first or second assistant in the operating room including performing surgical exposure, surgical dissections, layer closure of wounds, and application of dressings and immobilization devices.

Qualifications:
- State of California Physician Assistant License required.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.
- DEA license required.
- Three years experience in inpatient, outpatient, and surgery care required.
Job Information:
- Full-time, on-call coverage to include nights and weekends.
