We are currently seeking a Full or Part-Time Plans Examiner to join our team in the San Anselmo, CA area. If you’re passionate about building safety, code compliance, and supporting public agencies, this is your chance to make a lasting impact. As a Plans Examiner, you’ll play a key role in ensuring building safety and compliance while working closely with public agencies, architects, contractors, and the community.

What You'll Do 

  • Review building plans and specifications for compliance with codes, covering architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, energy conservation, green building standards, accessibility, and egress.
  • Coordinate plan reviews with other public agencies requiring approval.
  • Provide detailed feedback on required corrections and modifications, and guiding applicants through the process.
  • Authorize the issuance of building permits when plans meet all requirements; calculating related fees.
  • Advise and assist stakeholders with the interpretation and application of building regulations, state laws, and local ordinances.
  • Prepare reports for Building Officials on workload, process statistics, new products, and code interpretation issues.
  • Assist at jurisdictional counters as needed, answering public inquiries about plans and permitting requirements.

What You'll Bring 

  • Minimum 5 years of plans examiner experience.
  • Strong municipal experience.
  • ICC Plans Examiner Certification (Residential and Commercial).
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
