ABOUT THE JOB

The Platform Engineer supports the design, implementation, and operation of Marathon’s cloud infrastructure platforms by building and maintaining platform components within established standards and patterns.

This role works closely with senior engineers and engineering teams to implement Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and self-service capabilities that enable application and data teams to safely consume cloud infrastructure. The Platform Engineer focuses on execution and continuous improvement rather than platform strategy ownership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure components, primarily in AWS, including networking, containers, compute, storage, identity, and security foundations, using established platform standards.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform (or equivalent) under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Contribute to reusable infrastructure primitives and modules as part of the shared platform.
  • Implement automation and self-service capabilities that reduce manual operational effort.
  • Support the integration of applications and SaaS platforms through approved patterns (e.g., identity, networking, guardrails).
  • Participate in improving reliability, recoverability, efficiency, and other core pillars of platform components.
  • Follow established security, compliance, and cost-management guardrails to ensure platforms meet SOC 2, HIPAA, and HITRUST requirements and organization objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and operations teams to deploy and improve platform capabilities.
  • Contribute to platform documentation, runbooks, and operational standards.
  • Support platform-related incidents and operational issues within defined standards and escalation paths.
  • Focuses on deep ownership of one or two platform domains or components, with scope expanding over time as platform expertise grows.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or Information Technology and 2–4 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or platform-focused role or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS in production or pre-production environments.
  • Experience using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform preferred).
  • Working knowledge of automation and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Experience with collaborative development tools (e.g., Git, GitHub).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy).

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong interest in cloud-native platform engineering and infrastructure automation.
  • Learns and applies established modular patterns rather than creating ad-hoc solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with a bias toward clean, repeatable implementations.
  • Responds well to guidance and code reviews from senior engineers.
  • Communicates effectively with technical teammates and stakeholders.
  • Motivated to grow into increased platform ownership over time.
  • Solution-oriented mindset.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $130,000/yr
