The Platform System Simulation Test Engineer will develop simulation test suites, automate post-processing, validate safety and collaborate with teams for comprehensive testing of robotic systems.
Zoox’s System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team constructs the Safety Case and validates that our vehicles are safe for autonomous driving. SDMA enables Zoox to rapidly iterate and safely expand capabilities through trustworthy, innovative, and pragmatic safety engineering. As a Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Test Engineer at Zoox, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and test systems that enable and support our robotaxi, ensuring the safety and performance of the closed-loop drive system.
The Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Test Engineer will have strong technical skills in building simulation test suites, automating post-processing of data, maintaining the fidelity of simulation environments, and defining the optimal balance between vehicle and simulation testing.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the design and implementation of simulation suites to validate system performance and detect regressions from software changes
- Utilize Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines to run regression test suites and provide rapid feedback to development teams
- Define and develop automated data post-processing tools to streamline analysis and continuously improve reporting efficiency
- Analyze system requirements and verify the vehicle's safety concept
- Interpret complex test data, correlate simulation fidelity with real-world vehicle performance, and report key findings to stakeholders
- Work cross-functionally with drive validation, systems, software motion controls, and vehicle engineering teams to establish performance metrics that increase our reliance on simulation
- Design efficient and comprehensive test programs that leverage simulation and analysis to achieve full requirements coverage
Qualifications
- B.S. or a higher degree in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 6+ years of professional experience in simulation and developing automated testing frameworks
- Strong proficiency in Python for test scripting, automation, and data analysis
- Hands-on experience building and developing simulation-based test pipelines and Continuous Integration (CI) systems
- Experience with vehicle dynamics simulation environments (e.g., CarSim)
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience developing integration and test plans for safety-critical systems in the automotive, robotics, or aerospace industries
- Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN) and analysis tools such as CAPL
- Proficiency with Linux-based systems and data acquisition hardware/software
