Position Summary

Brown Advisory’s San Francisco office is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to support the management and oversight of complex client portfolios across a broad range of asset classes and investment strategies. This role is designed for an analytically-minded professional who is interested in markets, portfolio construction, and investment strategy implementation.

The Portfolio Analyst works closely with the local Investment Team to support portfolio management for multi-asset class client portfolios. Responsibilities include investment analysis, portfolio monitoring, liquidity management, and assisting in the implementation of client investment strategies. The role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, a collaborative mindset, the ability to connect dots across systems and teams, and a willingness to dive into the details of daily portfolio processes.

The analyst partners with Portfolio Managers, Investment Solutions, Client Service, and other internal teams to help ensure portfolios are positioned appropriately relative to client objectives and market conditions. This is a high ownership, high precision role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering a seamless client experience through operational excellence and offers meaningful exposure to portfolio management processes and investment decision-making. The ideal candidate possesses a “can do” mentality and always puts our client’s interests first.

 Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Support portfolio management for multi-asset class client portfolios, including monitoring allocations, liquidity management, and analysis of equity, fixed income, and alternative investments.

  • Assist Portfolio Managers in implementing client investment strategies through portfolio analysis, trade coordination, and ongoing portfolio oversight. Includes analyzing portfolio exposures and cash positioning to support investment decisions, client liquidity needs, and timely portfolio adjustments.

  • Monitor portfolio activity, including daily review of trades, cash balances, transactions, and account changes, to ensure portfolios remain aligned with client mandates and investment objectives.

  • Gather and synthesize investment data from internal and external systems to provide Portfolio Managers with insights necessary for daily portfolio management.

  • Support the evaluation and monitoring of investment strategies and managers in collaboration with the Portfolio Management team and Investment Solutions Group.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external managers to track capital activity, valuations, and investment documentation across required platforms.

  • Assist with investment-related client materials and communications in partnership with Portfolio Managers, Strategic Advisors, Client Service, and Marketing teams.

  • Contribute to portfolio analysis, investment initiatives, and other client-related projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates are motivated to provide proactive support to Portfolio Managers in the management of client portfolios and possess a strong interest in financial markets and investment strategy. They demonstrate strong analytical capabilities, exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently with a high level of direct responsibility while collaborating across investment teams.

Portfolio Analysts are highly professional and committed to delivering thoughtful portfolio support and a high-quality client investment experience.

Specific qualifications for the Portfolio Analyst position include:

  • 1-4 years of experience preferred

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and Adobe; Charles River, Factset, Bloomberg, Addepar and APX strongly preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team setting

  • Discretion in handling confidential client information

  • Passion for financial markets

  • Must be able to work on-site in the San Francisco office

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization (e.g., H-1B , O-1, F-1 (OPT), TN, or any other non-immigrant visa classifications that require employer support or sponsorship).

SF Salary: $90-$115k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
