Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Power Generation Operations to lead the operation and maintenance of primary and secondary on-site power generation systems supporting U.S. data center campuses. This role is accountable for ensuring continuous protection of compute load through disciplined execution of methods of procedure (MOPs), particularly during load transfers, ramp-rate transitions, and abnormal operating conditions.
The Senior Manager will partner closely with operations, engineering, and training teams to build and sustain high-performing maintenance and repair programs, oversee on-site power plant operating agreements, and lead teams responsible for day-to-day power generation operations. The role is focused on operational excellence, risk reduction, and achieving near-100% equipment availability in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and develop teams responsible for the operation and maintenance of primary and secondary power generation assets across assigned data center sites.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve MOPs to ensure compute load protection during generation transitions, including ramp-rate control and contingency scenarios.
  • Partner with operations training teams to design, implement, and maintain effective repair, preventive maintenance, and emergency response training programs.
  • Manage on-site power plant operating agreements, ensuring service delivery, performance metrics, and contractual obligations align with uptime and reliability requirements.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard specialized power generation operations personnel as required to support site growth and operational maturity.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators related to reliability, availability, maintenance effectiveness, and incident response.
  • Serve as an escalation point for significant power generation events and outages, coordinating cross-functional response and root cause analysis.
  • Drive a strong culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all power generation operations.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, emerging power generation technologies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of experience in power generation or mission-critical infrastructure operations, with demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of on-site power generation systems (primary and secondary) and their integration into data center environments.
  • Proven experience developing and executing MOPs to manage load transfers, ramp rates, and operational risk.
  • Experience building and sustaining maintenance, repair, and training programs in high-availability environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendor and operating agreements tied to critical infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience in data centers, utilities, power plants, or other mission-critical facilities is highly desirable.
  • Areas for these are currently, Abilene (sites 1 & 2), New Mexico, Wisconsin, Chicago IL.
