Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do - but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here - we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As a Principal Digital Product Owner - Supply Planning, you will strengthen Caterpillar's supply planning digital portfolio by shaping and supporting a mission-critical product used across global supply planning operations. You will serve as a product owner and subject matter expert, ensuring strong data governance, data quality, and consistent usage to enable scalable supplier readiness and long-term growth.
This role blends strategic product ownership with hands-on analysis. You will translate business needs into clear requirements, improve product usability and performance, and develop customer-facing documentation, training, and support materials. Applying a strong analytical and systems mindset, you will partner closely with IT, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions-not point fixes-that drive measurable value.
What makes this role exciting:
This is an opportunity to work on a high-impact digital product where improvements directly influence Caterpillar's supply base performance and long-term growth strategy. Your work will support the company's ability to scale by ensuring suppliers have reliable, well-designed tools to meet future demand. The role offers a unique combination of product ownership, data-driven problem solving, quality assurance, and systems-level thinking, with visible impact across the enterprise.
What you will do:
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog for a critical supply planning digital product, aligning roadmaps to business priorities, supplier readiness goals, and globally consistent deployment.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders and business users to collect Voice of the Business (VOB) and Voice of the Customer (VOC), define problems, and translate needs into clear business requirements, acceptance criteria, and implementation plans.
  • Query, validate, and analyze data (including Snowflake and similar platforms) to support troubleshooting, product decisions, and measurable improvements in data quality and consistency.
  • Lead quality assurance, testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by defining test scenarios, validating outcomes, and confirming usability and readiness for release.
  • Manage software change requests from intake through deployment by defining scope, impacts, risks, and release readiness criteria; track progress and outcomes through delivery.
  • Collaborate with IT, engineering, project leaders, and solution owners to design, develop, deploy, and monitor supply network capabilities, including process standardization, configuration alignment, and cost impacts.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying systemic issues, performing root-cause analysis, recommending service and product enhancements, and measuring adoption and performance post-release.
  • Develop and deliver required training, coaching, and user documentation to ensure successful deployment, user adoption, and sustained value from digital tools and platforms.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives by developing standardized best practices, service offerings, and supporting tools; serve as a technical representative for the discipline and present recommendations to senior leaders as needed.

What skills you will have:
  • Business Analysis: Ability to identify business needs, analyze data, and recommend solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Strong analytical judgment to evaluate trade-offs, identify root causes, and resolve complex product and system issues.
  • Effective Communications: Ability to clearly communicate findings, priorities, and decisions across technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leaders.
  • Software Change Request Management: Experience managing product change requests from intake through validation, release readiness, and deployment.
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT): Ability to design, execute, and evaluate testing strategies that ensure product quality, usability, and operational readiness.

Top candidates will also have:
  • Degree in engineering or business and/or certifications in a supply chain management area of focus.
  • Experience querying and analyzing data using Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with quality assurance, testing, and troubleshooting in digital product environments.
  • Background in IT or software development, with an understanding of how digital products are built, deployed, and supported.
  • Strong systems thinking-ability to diagnose issues across data, process, and technology layers.
  • Experience supporting enterprise or supply-chain-related digital tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile product development environments and tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
