Job Description

Job title: Principal Engineer, Analog Design

Lumentum is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Principal Engineer, Analog Design to lead the design, development, and validation of complex analog circuits for cutting-edge optical communication products. This role involves significant technical ownership, mentorship, and collaboration within a dynamic R&D environment. Join a winning team where your expertise in high-speed design will directly influence the future of global communications.
Job Responsibilities**
* Lead the architecture, design, simulation, and layout supervision of high-performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for various optical modules and subsystems.
* Define detailed design specifications, block diagrams, and interface requirements based on system-level performance goals.
* Conduct comprehensive circuit simulations (e.g., SPICE, Spectre) to ensure design functionality, performance, and robustness across process, voltage, and temperature variations.
* Oversee and actively participate in the layout design process, ensuring adherence to design rules, performance requirements, and manufacturability considerations.
* Develop and execute thorough test plans for silicon validation, characterization, and debugging of new analog designs in the lab.
* Collaborate closely with system architects, digital design engineers, firmware engineers, and test engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
* Perform root cause analysis and implement effective solutions for design-related issues encountered during development, testing, or production.
* Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and contribute to the growth of the analog design team.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and design methodologies in analog and mixed-signal IC design.
* Generate detailed design documentation, including schematics, simulation reports, test reports, and design reviews.
Job Qualifications**
* Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
* 10+ years of hands-on experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design, preferably within the optical communications or high-speed data networking industry.
* Proven track record of successfully bringing complex analog designs from concept to high-volume production.
* Expertise in designing various analog building blocks such as high-speed amplifiers, ADCs/DACs, PLLs, SERDES components, voltage regulators, and sensor interfaces.
* Strong proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, AMS simulation environments).
* Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics, advanced CMOS process nodes and layout effects.
* Demonstrated experience with silicon debug and characterization using laboratory equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators).
* Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a strong analytical mindset.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
* Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation and presentations.
