Nu is one of the largest digital financial platforms in the world, with more than 127 million customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. Guided by our mission to fight complexity and empower people, we are redefining financial services in Latin America and this is still just the beginning of the purple future we're building.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: NU), we combine proprietary technology, data intelligence, and an efficient operating model to deliver financial products that are simple, accessible, and human.

About the Role

As a Principal Product Designer, you are the senior-most design authority on the team. You are a visionary with the ability to execute swiftly, articulating solutions that don't just improve the status quo but redefine it. This is an IC9-level role, meaning you operate with exceptional autonomy to drive strategic change across multiple countries and functions.

You will be the guardian of our "purple" identity, responsible for defining 0-1 experiences and elevating the level of craftsmanship across our entire global product. From leading the next generation of our illustration system to architecting the core interaction patterns of our homepage, your work will set the technical and aesthetic foundations that millions of people interact with daily. You are a consultant to leadership, a mentor to the guild, and a pioneer of design excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Define the Vision: Lead the creation of 0-1 product experiences, setting a high bar for concept and quality that inspires the entire design organization.
  • Evolve the Visual Identity: Spearhead the global transition to our new illustration system. Define scalable guidelines that move us from current standards to a unified, global language.
  • Architect Core Interactions: Define the structural patterns and widgets for the Nu homepage. Deliver production-ready specifications that bridge the gap between high-level design and engineering execution.
  • Unify Global Design: Eliminate fragmentation across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. You will create a cohesive design language that feels like "one Nu" while intelligently allowing for local market flexibility.
  • Drive Strategic Roadmap: Act as an advisor to business leadership, translating organizational strategy into a tangible design roadmap and removing blocks to ensure a world-class user experience.
  • Mentor and Influence: Act as an ambassador for design craft. You will coach senior design leaders and foster a culture of open communication, empathy, and continuous improvement.
  • Master AI & Innovation: Identify breakthrough opportunities to integrate AI into the design workflow and product experience, ensuring ethical standards and user trust are always prioritized.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Deep Design Mastery: Extensive experience leading design at a global scale, with a portfolio that demonstrates world-class visual craft, UI excellence, and systems thinking.
  • Proven Strategic Leadership: Ability to drive large-scale organizational transformations and influence enterprise-level strategy through design.
  • Architectural Thinking: Deep expertise in design systems, interaction patterns, and creating scalable frameworks for complex digital products.
  • Swift Execution: A "visionary who does"—the ability to quickly prototype and articulate high-fidelity solutions that solve complex, ambiguous business problems.
  • Exceptional Communication: Mastery in communicating complex design logic to executive stakeholders and mentoring other designers to improve their persuasive storytelling.
  • Global Perspective: Experience working across diverse markets and cultures, with the ability to balance global consistency and local relevance.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in pioneering AI-driven design tools or features.

Our Benefits
  • A high leverage compensation package benchmarked against global tech leaders, combining a competitive base salary ($312,000) with significant equity (RSUs) to ensure your success is directly tied to the long-term growth of the purple future we are building together.
  • Top Tier Medical Insurance
  • Top Tier Dental and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) matching
  • 20 days time off, 14 company holidays, and great culture that emphasizes work life balance.
  • Life Insurance and AD&D
  • Nucleo - Our learning platform of courses
  • NuLanguage - Our language learning program
  • NuCare - Our mental health and wellness assistance program
  • Extended maternity and paternity leaves
  • Saving Plans - Health Saving Account and Flexible Spending Account
  • Twice a week in the office (Palo Alto) + quarterly trips to Sao Paulo (Brazil) to build relationships with coworkers.
