Principal Engineer, Data Analytics

We have an opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our Data & AI team in North America, reporting to the VP of Data & AI. In this pivotal role, you will drive the design and delivery of intelligent, AI-powered systems that transform data into actionable insights and automated decision-making.  This role will shape the architecture for closed-loop, intent-driven analytics platforms that deliver predictive and prescriptive outcomes across Infoblox’s product ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is self-driven, thrives in ambiguity, and leads with influence across Product, Data Science, and Engineering to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Be a Contributor — What You’ll Do

  • Architect and lead architecture and implementation of a greenfield AI analytics product, from proof of concept to production launch, aligning technical decisions to business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, data science, and product teams to develop closed-loop systems that continuously learn and adapt from feedback signals.
  • Integrate predictive and prescriptive analytics models into production systems, enabling automated recommendations and self-optimizing decisions.
  • Define and implement data-to-action architectures, leveraging AI/ML, event-driven designs, and microservices to create real-time decisioning capabilities.
  • Champion observability, reliability, and explainability as core principles in all analytics systems—ensuring outputs are measurable, transparent, and trustworthy.
  • Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, mentoring, and cross-functional alignment, influencing teams toward unified analytics and automation standards.
  • Partner with product leaders to define KPIs and success metrics that measure the business impact of analytics and automation.
  • Drive engineering best practices and platform patterns (CI/CD, IaC with Terraform/CloudFormation, SDLC quality gates, SLOs, runbooks) across collaborating teams.

Be Prepared — What You Bring

  • 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 5+ years building or leading large-scale cloud or analytics platforms.
  • Expertise in Python, Go, or Java, with strong fundamentals in distributed systems, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Strong command of cloud-native architecture patterns—microservices, containers (EKS/Kubernetes), event-driven design, and zero-trust security.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with influence—driving clarity, alignment, and outcomes across product, data science, and platform teams.
  • Self‑driven ownership mindset with a track record of delivering complex systems from concept to production, balancing agility, reliability, and cost.
  • Understanding of streaming and event-based systems, telemetry, and feedback loops for continuous learning.
  • Demonstrated success in building data-driven automation, decisioning, or intent-based systems—turning insight into direct system action.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models and inference services into live products and business workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; Master’s preferred or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred experience includes: GenAI/LLMs, semantic search, vector databases, embedding pipelines for data analytics applications, familiarity with modern analytics engineers and warehouses (e.g., Clickhouse, Redshift, Athena, Trino, Presto, Databricks, or Snowflake), and a background in networking, cybersecurity or SaaS analytics products.

Be Successful — Your Path

First 90 Days: Immerse in our culture, connect with mentors (Blox Buddies), and map the systems and meet with key stakeholders that rely on your work. Discuss and create short/long term goals.

Six Months: Ship the MVP to pilot customers with instrumented telemetry, reliable pipelines, and secure multi‑tenant services; stand up CI/CD and IaC; establish SLOs and runbooks; demonstrate measurable impact on latency/freshness/cost and validate product‑market signals.

One Year: Launch GA v1 at scale with strong reliability and cost controls; harden governance and privacy; expand AI‑assisted experiences; mentor a cohort of senior engineers; and codify platform patterns adopted broadly across teams.

Belong— Your Community

Our culture thrives on inclusion, rewarding the bold ideas, curiosity, and creativity that move us forward. In a community where every voice counts, continuous learning is the norm. So, whether you code, create, sell, or care for customers, you’ll grow and belong here.

Be Rewarded — Benefits That Help You Grow, Thrive, Belong

  • Comprehensive health coverage, generous PTO, and flexible work options
  • Learning opportunities, career-mobility programs, and leadership workshops
  • Sixteen paid volunteer hours each year, global employee resource groups, and a “No Jerks” policy that keeps collaboration healthy
  • Modern offices with EV charging, healthy snacks (and the occasional cupcake), plus hackathons, game nights, and culture celebrations
  • Charitable Giving Program supported by Company Match
  • We practice pay transparency and reward performance. Offers reflect role location, internal equity, experience, skills, education, and certifications. Base salary for this position in Tacoma: $195,000 - $300,000 plus annual bonus.
