PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $184,300.00-$225,000.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $143,000.00 - $266,300.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

Employees and their eligible family members have access to a wide array of employee benefits, such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage.  Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance.  We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees.  Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan.  Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. IMPACT YOU'LL MAKE:
As a Principal Solutions Engineer, you’ll lead the development of resilient, automated, and cloud-ready solutions that protect and empower BECU members. You’ll be at the forefront of launching a technical disaster recovery program that ensures our most critical systems remain operational during outages. Your work will directly support the continuity of essential financial services, reduce risk, and strengthen member trust. You’ll collaborate across teams to drive innovation, select cutting-edge tools, and mentor others in secure, scalable solution design. To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.  For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Lead Disaster Recovery Program Design:  Establish and drive a technical disaster recovery program focused on automation, resilience, and failover readiness across core banking systems.

  • Drive Strategic Planning & Execution:  Lead planning for the 2026 automation initiative, including vendor selection, tool onboarding, and milestone delivery.

  • Architect Resilient Solutions:  Design cloud-ready, secure applications and integrations that support business continuity and member-facing systems.

  • Collaborate Across Teams:  Partner with application owners, infrastructure teams, architects, and risk and cybersecurity teams to ensure seamless coordination and execution.

  • Mentor & Influence:  Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the organization, raising the bar for secure and scalable solution design.

  • Prototype & Innovate:  Build and test solutions that solve complex business challenges, using modern frameworks and cloud technologies.

  • Communicate & Represent:  Present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, internally and externally, representing BECU in the broader tech community.

  • Support Tool Selection & Automation:  Select and implement orchestration and runbook automation tools to improve failover processes and reduce recovery times.

  • Ensure KPI Achievement:  Deliver measurable outcomes including reduced failover times, increased automation, and readiness for key project milestones.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 10 years of information technology experience with demonstrated expertise in application design.

  • Experience with Financial products, i.e., Credit Card, Mortgage, Loan, Deposits, etc.

  • Experience with public cloud (Azure/AWS/Google Cloud) technologies including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS offerings

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in consumer financial products with expertise in UX, integration, and API layer.

  • Experience with .NET, C#, Node.js, and modern JavaScript frameworks in TypeScript or JavaScript (React, Angular, etc.), or Python.

  • System administration and automation with PowerShell or Bash.

  • Strong understanding in SOLID design principles, Object-Oriented Programming and Design.

  • Expertise with SOA patterns and distributed systems design.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps Services, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or TeamCity.

  • Experience leading and collaborating with multiple teams for enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Industry conference experience presenting in front of technically adept and non-technical audiences.
