ABOUT BESTOW

Life insurance is one of the world's most important products. It's also one of the hardest to build, distribute, and modernize. Bestow exists to change that.

Bestow is a leading vertical technology platform serving some of the largest and most innovative life insurers. Our platform unifies the fragmented, legacy value chain, enabling carriers to launch products in weeks instead of years. Carriers choose us to scale and operate at unprecedented speed, powered by AI and automation.

Bestow isn't selling policies. We're building the infrastructure that helps an entire industry move faster, reach more people, and deliver on its promise.

Backed by leading investors (Goldman Sachs, Hedosophia, NEA, Valar, 8VC) and trusted by major carriers, Bestow is powered by a team that moves with precision, purpose, and heart. If you want to help reimagine a centuries-old industry with lasting impact, join us.

Bestow offers flexible remote/hybrid work, meaningful benefits, equity, and substantial growth opportunities.

ABOUT THE TEAM

As a Product Actuary, Life & Annuity (L&A), you'll be part of the Insurance Product Team, working across Bestow's Software Product, Customer Experience, Data Science, User Experience, Actuarial, Legal/Compliance, Engineering, and Sales teams. This role sits alongside actuarial and insurance product professionals and requires the ability to translate complex actuarial mathematics into accurate, implementable system logic.

Bestow is reimagining its illustration and policy administration capabilities, expanding full policy lifecycle support for complex life and annuity products. This is a hands-on role. You'll be the go-to actuarial and calculation subject-matter expert for the team building these capabilities, working directly alongside our Engineering teams — including building prototypes using AI tools. It's a real opportunity to make a tangible contribution and shape how this gets built.

This role reports to the Senior Actuary and is open to Dallas, TX, or Remote (US). #LI-Remote

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Bestow is looking for a Product Actuary, L&A to contribute in the following ways:

  • Serve as the go-to subject-matter expert on the actuarial and calculation logic behind illustrations and policy administration, supporting a team building these capabilities from scratch.

  • Translate life insurance and annuity product specifications into implementable system logic for illustration and policy administration systems (e.g. covering crediting mechanisms, rider mechanics / charges, benefit base calculations, surrender charge schedules, and other product features), working closely with Engineering.

  • Use AI tools to rapidly prototype, code, and test calculation logic. If you haven’t done this before, there’s no better place to learn.

  • Support policy migrations (bringing legacy, in-force blocks including products sold decades ago onto Bestow’s platform) — ensuring original calculation logic carries through accurately, in addition to new business product implementations.

  • Validate that system behavior accurately reflects product intent, pressure-testing actuarial specs against implementation and resolving discrepancies.

  • Support User Acceptance Testing for product implementations and platform enhancements, including structured review of system outputs against expected results.

  • Produce clear documentation of product calculation methodologies, business rules, and implementation decisions.

  • Partner with carrier and vendor implementation teams to support the onboarding of new products and features.

WHO YOU ARE
  • 8+ years of life insurance industry experience; annuity experience is a strong plus

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience building pricing models or implementing illustration and policy administration systems at a carrier, vendor, or insurtech — working directly with the software, its real-world nuances, and its edge cases.

  • Deep product knowledge of life and annuity insurance products such as IUL, VUL, FIA, and complex riders, including calculations and transactions built out in illustration and policy administration systems.

  • A track record of connecting actuarial calculations to how they actually function in policy admin workflows — not just the math, but how it's used downstream.

  • Experience with agentic coding tools and workflows is a plus.

  • Experience supporting policy migrations or legacy block conversions — reconciling data, validating legacy calculation logic, and testing source-to-target accuracy — is a strong plus.

  • Actuarial background (ASA, FSA) is strongly preferred; candidates without formal credentials should have equivalent technical depth in life insurance product mathematics.

  • Strong written communication skills, able to produce clear, precise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Comfortable building processes and making judgment calls from scratch in a fast-moving environment.
