Own the Android POS experience for beverage alcohol retailers, from research and problem framing through shipped design and iteration. Conduct user research with cashiers and store staff, design checkout and operational workflows, collaborate with product managers and engineers, extend the design system, and contribute to web and back-office experiences. The role requires strong product, interaction, visual, and systems design skills, plus comfort with hardware constraints, ambiguity, and AI-assisted workflows.

About Us

Scotch is building the next-generation operating system for beverage alcohol retailers — combining POS, payments, back office, and e-commerce into a platform purpose-built for liquor stores.

We’re modernizing one of the oldest industries in the world: the $1.6T beverage alcohol market. Our platform helps retailers run more efficiently through streamlined payments, inventory management, reporting, and day-to-day operations.

Our founders came from Skupos (acquired 2023) and Drizly (acquired by Uber). We've raised $28M from VMG Partners, First Round, Lerer Hippeau, Watchfire, and Toba Capital, with angels including the founder of Drizly and early Toast executives. In 2026, we closed a $20M Series A. Forbes has recognized Scotch as a leader in liquor retail tech.

Position Overview

We're looking for a Product Designer to own Scotch's Android-based POS that cashiers and store staff use at the counter every day. This isn't a role where you get handed requirements and asked for wireframes. You'll lead research with cashiers and store staff, and use what you learn to shape what we build, whether that means improving existing workflows or designing new ones.

This is a design role where the constraints are real. The work happens on a busy counter and depends on hardware like scanners, card readers, and receipt printers. Every extra step costs a store money. You'll be the thought partner to our product managers and the terminal engineering team, pushing back on over-specified solutions and surfacing problems we didn't think to ask about.

You'll report to our lead designer and work together to keep the terminal and back office feeling like one product. Your focus will be the terminal, but you may also pick up web work as priorities shift. If you're energized by ambiguity, motivated by real user impact, and excited about AI's role in both the products you design and your own workflow, this is a great fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the terminal experience end to end, including checkout, payments, returns, and the everyday workflows cashiers and store staff rely on.
  • Lead discovery with cashiers and store staff through interviews, remote usability testing, and in-store visits when possible, and turn what you learn into clear design decisions.
  • Design for the realities of retail: long lines, constant interruptions, staff with varying experience, and hardware that has to just work.
  • Partner closely with product managers to define requirements and challenge assumptions. Be the voice that asks "Did we solve the right problem?" before we ask "Did we build it right?"
  • Collaborate with the Terminal engineering team to bring designs to life faithfully, stay curious about platform and hardware capabilities, and help drive our evolving AI-assisted design and build loop.
  • Work with our lead designer to extend the shared design system to the terminal, so that the counter and the back office feel like one product.
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle, including roadmap conversations and post-launch iteration.
  • Contribute to web and back office design when needed, in partnership with our lead designer.
  • Bring a point of view, not just execution

Qualifications & Skills

  • 4+ years of product/UX design experience in a startup or fast-moving environment.
  • Experience designing and shipping mobile or tablet apps, with a strong grasp of native platform patterns.
  • Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end work, including research, problem framing, and shipped product.
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills. You sweat the details that matter for users and know when to push and when to ship.
  • A skilled researcher who can plan discovery, synthesize findings quickly, and turn ambiguous problems into clear design direction, including when research is mostly remote.
  • Experience partnering closely with PMs and pushing back constructively. You help define the problem, not just solve it.
  • You think in systems, not screens, and care about patterns, consistency, and how designs scale.
  • Comfortable working alongside engineers in a fast-moving R&D environment and understanding implementation constraints.
  • Proficient with Figma and Claude, and able to prototype quickly to test assumptions and communicate behavior.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience designing complex B2B or operational workflows (retail, logistics, or similar).
  • Familiarity with design systems—building them, maintaining them, and getting others to use them.
  • You actively use AI tools in your own workflow and are excited to design AI-assisted experiences that feel human and intentional.
  • Experience as a sole or lead designer.
  • Some exposure to frontend development or a strong mental model of how the design-to-build handoff works.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000–$160,000. Individual offers are based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
  • Competitive equity package
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Unlimited flexible PTO

Why Scotch?

  • A real product with real users—your design decisions affect store managers navigating live operational complexity every day.
  • True design ownership: you’ll shape the product, not just execute on specs.
  • A tight-knit engineering and product team that takes design seriously
