Company

Pramaana Labs is a frontier AI lab building the verification layer for AI. Founded in 2025 and headquartered in Palo Alto, we turn complex human knowledge, including tax codes, legal rules, clinical guidelines and security protocols, into a formal representation, so every AI answer can be traced, challenged, and proved. Pramaana's architecture pairs foundation models trained to formalize and reason with a symbolic world model encoded in Lean 4. Pramaana was founded by a team out of Google, DeepMind, and Glean, combining frontier AI researchers and formal methods experts.

The Role

Pramaana is building AI systems that make their answers verifiable, with explicit rules, assumptions, and proofs that people can inspect. We’re looking for a Product Designer to turn that technical depth into clear, useful, and thoughtfully crafted experiences.

This is a hands-on, early-stage role with scope across Pramaana - not a position confined to one product, feature, or industry. Your work will span customer-facing applications, self-serve and developer experiences, internal tools, and the shared systems that connect them. You might explore a new product concept, simplify a research workflow, or establish interaction patterns that will support several products as they grow.

You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and research to shape what we build and how it works. We’re looking for someone who can move between product direction and detailed execution: identifying the right problem, testing ideas quickly, and staying involved until the experience works well in users’ hands. You’ll help establish both our products and our approach to design.

What You'll Do
  • Own design from discovery through launch. Frame problems, explore solutions, create flows and prototypes, deliver detailed designs, and improve the experience after release. Help define requirements rather than simply work from them.

  • Design across products and audiences. Build experiences for customers, developers, domain experts, and internal teams. Adapt to different workflows while making the broader Pramaana experience feel connected and consistent.

  • Make complex systems understandable. Design ways for users to work with knowledge, rules, dependencies, and verification results. Help them inspect supporting evidence and distinguish what has been verified, what is assumed, and what remains unresolved.

  • Create shared experiences that scale. Shape foundations such as onboarding, identity, workspaces, permissions, API access, and usage reporting. Design for new products, user types, and organizational needs without adding unnecessary complexity.

  • Build and evolve our design system. Establish reusable components, interaction patterns, and accessibility standards with engineering. Create foundations that improve consistency and help the team ship faster.

  • Use research and experimentation to guide decisions. Talk to users, observe their workflows, test prototypes, and combine qualitative feedback with product data. Identify what needs to change and whether the changes actually help.

  • Stay close to implementation and craft. Partner with engineers through delivery, including interaction details, copy, loading states, errors, and edge cases. Help establish lightweight design reviews and a culture of constructive feedback.

You Will Thrive in This Role If You Have
  • A portfolio of shipped work that demonstrates strong product thinking and craft. You can explain the problem, your decisions, the trade-offs, and the outcome - not just show the final screens.

  • Experience taking loosely defined problems from concept to usable products. You can create direction without waiting for a complete brief and adapt as new information changes the plan.

  • Strong interaction design, visual design, and information architecture skills. You can make information-rich workflows approachable without hiding the details users need.

  • The ability to think across systems. You consider how roles, permissions, data, states, and dependencies affect the whole experience, rather than designing each screen in isolation.

  • Technical curiosity and a hands-on approach. You enjoy learning how a product works beneath the interface and can collaborate closely with engineers and researchers. You’re comfortable with Figma and interactive prototyping, and open to new tools that help you explore and build.

  • Good judgment about speed, scope, and quality. You know when a lightweight experiment is enough, when a workflow needs deeper investigation, and which foundations deserve investment.

  • Clear communication and a collaborative working style. You make decisions understandable, seek out feedback, challenge assumptions constructively, and take responsibility for improving what ships.

Especially Strong Candidates May Also Have
  • Experience as an early designer at a startup, helping establish product direction, design practices, and a consistent visual language.

  • Experience designing developer tools, AI products, enterprise software, or internal platforms with complex, data-intensive workflows.

  • Experience building design systems that are used across multiple products, including close collaboration on their implementation in code.

  • The ability to build functional prototypes with AI-assisted development tools.

  • Experience with knowledge editors, graph visualizations, evaluation tools, or audit workflows - particularly where users need to understand sources, changes, evidence, and limitations.

Prior experience in formal verification is not required. We value the curiosity to understand unfamiliar problems and the ability to turn that understanding into excellent products.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
