As a Product Engineer, you'll implement AI features, collaborate with teams, prototype workflows, and improve developer processes at Vori.

Why this role / Why now

Software development is changing.

The traditional model where engineers manually write every feature is being replaced by agentic systems that design, generate, test, and ship software continuously.

At Vori, we’re not building traditional software.

We’re building the modern operating system for grocery, and the next phase of that platform is agentic infrastructure. Systems of AI agents that help retailers run their stores and help our own engineering teams ship faster.

Our long-term vision is the self-driving store:
an operating system where intelligent agents continuously optimize pricing, inventory, merchandising, and operations.

To build that future, we also need to transform how software itself is created.

That means evolving from a company that ships features to a company that orchestrates agents that ship features.

Every engineer at Vori is now an AI Product Engineer:

• Designing agent workflows
• Building context systems and knowledge layers
• Creating feedback loops that improve automatically
• Shipping products where AI is a core part of the system

You’ll work across product, design, and infrastructure to turn ideas into production AI systems that retailers rely on every day.

What you’ll do

Design and ship agentic product systems, not just software features.

Partner with product managers, designers, and customers to identify problems where AI agents can meaningfully improve workflows.

Design and implement agent architectures including reasoning, planning, tool use, and feedback loops.

Build the infrastructure that powers AI systems including:

• orchestration frameworks
• context pipelines
• evaluation frameworks
• knowledge systems
• event-driven architectures

Work across the full stack from backend orchestration and data pipelines to user-facing interfaces that make AI systems understandable and trustworthy.

Ship fast prototypes, run experiments, and turn promising ideas into production systems used by retailers at scale.

Continuously integrate emerging AI capabilities and tools to increase both product intelligence and engineering velocity.

Improve how Vori builds software by helping the organization adopt agentic development workflows including AI-assisted coding, testing, debugging, and design.

Contribute to the evolution of Vori’s agentic development platform including infrastructure, tooling, and internal standards.

What we’re looking for

You are an engineer who wants to build AI-native products, not bolt AI onto existing systems.

3–8+ years building production software systems.

Strong ability to build across the stack including backend services, data pipelines, and user-facing applications.

Experience working with or deep interest in technologies such as:

• LLM APIs
• agent frameworks and orchestration systems
• vector search and retrieval systems
• evaluation and feedback pipelines
• event-driven systems

You think in systems, not just endpoints.

You move quickly from idea → prototype → production.

You care deeply about customer outcomes, not just technical novelty.

You’re excited about shaping how teams build in an AI-native engineering organization.

You have a maker’s mindset: you thrive on prototyping, iterating quickly, and owning features from zero → one → scale.

Why Vori
  • Mission-driven team building tech that helps local businesses thrive

  • Backed by top investors and advisors from Stripe, Uber, Palantir, and Toast

  • Real revenue, real growth, and a massive market opportunity

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
