Why Patch, why now

Patch exists to rebalance the planet. We make environmental commodities easier to understand, trust, and buy at the scale the climate crisis requires.

We're building the software and market infrastructure that powers unified climate action. Our platform is the trusted system for carbon-removal data, routing hundreds of millions of dollars to projects that permanently remove or reduce CO₂.

If you want product work where your decisions influence an entire market and your code has measurable climate impact, let’s talk.

The role

We’re hiring Product Engineers to own outcomes end-to-end: deeply understanding customer problems, shaping solutions, and shipping reliable software that compounds in value.

Environmental markets are currently slowed by fragmentation and uncertainty. Patch removes these constraints with software, data, and expertise. Our Product Engineers are at the center of that.

Engineering at Patch is deeply product-shaped. We expect you to help define the problem, pressure-test solutions, and make principled trade-offs between speed, cost, and long-term maintainability. And ship.

How we work (and what you should expect)

You’ll be operating in a high-trust Engineering, Product & Design (EPD) environment with clear accountability.

  • Empowered accountability: We empower individuals through clear goals and “inspected trust, engaging early to catch misalignment without micromanaging.

  • Customer proximity: We stay close to real customer signals (calls, transcripts, feedback) to validate assumptions early, avoid building on proxy narratives, and move faster with confidence.

  • High standards: We build the future through proactive ownership, treating each other like true partners (direct but empathetic) and “amping it up” with urgency.

What you’ll do

You’ll own meaningful product surface area and drive it from ambiguous problem to shipped solution. Specifically, you will:

  • Build customer-facing workflows that streamline the research, sourcing, and purchasing of environmental commodities.

  • Partner with Product and Design to converge on 80/20 solutions—prioritizing fast learning and high impact.

  • Act as the DRI on initiatives: clarifying scope, sequencing work, aligning stakeholders, and driving projects to the finish line.

  • Raise the quality bar through thoughtful reviews, pragmatic architecture, and a bias toward getting the right things live.

  • Communicate clearly and in writing, using meetings primarily for active collaboration and decision-making.

What “success” looks like

In your first months, success means shipping meaningful improvements while compounding team velocity—making smart trade-offs, simplifying complexity, and strengthening product trust.

Over time, success means shaping direction: anticipating what the platform should become, mentoring others, and consistently delivering high-leverage outcomes that map back to Patch’s mission.

What we’re looking for

We are primarily hiring for Senior / Staff+ scope, given the level of ownership and ambiguity involved. However, we welcome earlier-career candidates who demonstrate exceptional product thinking and judgment.

Strong candidates tend to possess the following:

  • A product engineer’s mindset: You care about the user, ask “what problem are we actually solving?”, and turn messy requirements into crisp scope.

  • High ownership and urgency: You don’t wait for instructions. You proactively propose what the next 3–12 months should look like and hold yourself to a high bar.

  • Collaboration with accountability: You communicate directly with respect, disagree and commit, and prefer a DRI model over consensus-by-default.

  • AI-native workflow: You routinely use AI to tighten feedback loops and unblock yourself, without lowering the bar for quality or judgment.

  • Excellent engineering fundamentals: You build reliable, secure, and maintainable software, making pragmatic trade-offs that protect long-term velocity.

Tech at Patch

Our core stack is Ruby on Rails with Stimulus on the frontend. We view technology as a tool in service of the mission, so we hire for strong fundamentals, customer empathy, and the ability to ship. Prior Rails experience is helpful, but not required.

What you’ll get
  • A mission-obsessed crew shipping with speed and sky-high standards

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity

  • On-site culture in San Francisco with annual offsites for deep strategy and team bonding

  • Unlimited vacation and generous parental leave

  • Monthly wellness stipend (mental and physical)

Commitment to Diversity: Patch is committed to a policy of Equal Employment Opportunity and will not discriminate against an applicant, candidate, or employee on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin or ancestry, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, medical condition, marital/domestic partner status, military or veteran status, genetic information or any other legally-recognized protected basis under federal, state or local laws, regulations or ordinances.

If you are extended an offer, that offer may be contingent upon your successful completion of a background check, which will be conducted in accordance with applicable laws. We may obtain one or more background screening reports about you, solely for employment purposes.
