About Zed

Zed is building the first AI-native, licensed neobank in the Philippines designed to democratize access to premium financial services for young professionals in global markets. The current banking system is broken, often shutting out the world’s youngest and fastest-growing consumer classes—we’re here to fix it.

Our team is uniquely positioned to solve this. We are Stanford engineers and former YC founders who have spent our careers at the intersection of banking and hyper-growth startups like Square, Facebook, and Box. We’ve been here before, having previously built and exited Symple (YC W'17), a fast-growing B2B payments company.

We are backed by world-class investors, including Accel, Valar, Immad Akhund (Mercury), Dalton Caldwell (Y Combinator), and Kunal Shah (Cred).

The Role

As a Product Engineer, you’ll build the core systems that power Zed’s customer-facing products. In your first six months, you’ll ship foundational backend features that directly impact users — owning projects from ambiguous idea to production deployment.

We work together in person, five days a week, from our San Francisco office. You’ll work closely with founders, product, and design to translate vision into reliable, scalable systems.

This role is ideal for engineers who’ve trained in strong product environments and want more ownership than they’d get at a large organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and ship backend systems that power Zed’s banking and financial automation products

  • Own features end-to-end — architecture, implementation, deployment, and monitoring

  • Collaborate closely with product, design, operations, and leadership

  • Contribute to our Rust-based backend (prior Rust experience is a plus, not required)

  • Help shape engineering standards, architecture decisions, and culture as we scale

What You Bring
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in product-focused environments

  • Strong backend depth in a typed or functional language (Rust, Go, Scala, Haskell, OCaml, TypeScript, etc.)

  • Experience shipping core product features — not just isolated infrastructure components

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and early-stage environments

  • High ownership mindset and strong product intuition

Nice to have:

  • Experience at a high-growth startup (Series A–C)

  • Background at a strong consumer tech company with meaningful product ownership

  • Fintech or payments experience

  • Excitement about AI-native development workflows

Why This Role Is Different
  • Direct founder access and real ownership

  • Opportunity to define the core architecture of a licensed bank

  • 0→1 product building with real users and regulatory complexity

  • Competitive cash, meaningful equity, and long-term upside

We hire exceptional people from diverse backgrounds because different perspectives build better products.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t check every box, apply anyway. We value potential, ownership, and alignment with our values more than perfect résumés.

We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on legally protected characteristics. We provide reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process.

Compensation includes salary, equity, and benefits. Final offers are based on role scope, location, and experience.
