About Us:

Monarch is a powerful, all-in-one personal finance platform designed to help make the complexity of finances feel simple again. Since launching in 2021, we've become the top-recommended personal finance app by users and experts. Our goal? To take the stress out of finances so our members can focus on what truly matters.

We are a team of do-ers led by experienced entrepreneurs who are passionate about helping our members reach their financial goals. We're hyper focused on building a product people love, and on finding every edge that helps us do that better. AI is core to how we operate: every person on the team uses it as a partner to sharpen judgment, move faster, and expand what's possible. We're not looking for tool mastery, we're looking for fluency and curiosity. What matters is that AI is part of how you work today and that you're actively raising your own bar on how to use it well.

As a fully remote company (even before COVID!), we welcome applicants from almost anywhere. Our team collaborates synchronously mostly from 9 AM – 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work to stay connected across time zones.

Join us on our mission to transform lives by simplifying money, together.

The Role:

We're hiring Senior, Staff and Principal Product Managers with 5+ years of PM experience with a track record of shipping products they're proud of. You'll own discovery, prioritization, and delivery on a high-leverage area of Monarch's product. A PM role at Monarch requires taking end-to-end responsibility from identifying the opportunity through shipping and iterating in-market.

This is an individual contributor role with significant ownership and high autonomy. You won't be coordinating; you'll be building.
Below, you'll find more information about the three product areas we're currently hiring for:

  • Aggregation: Monarch's value starts with reliable, accurate financial data, and this PM owns the layer that makes it possible. You'll work on bank connections, account sync, transaction normalization, and the pipelines every downstream experience depends on. When aggregation breaks, member trust breaks. This role sits at the intersection of product, data engineering, and fintech infrastructure. Strong technical fluency matters, not because you'll write code, but because you'll make consequential calls about data architecture, third-party provider tradeoffs, and reliability investments. Familiarity with financial data or data platform products is a meaningful advantage.

  • Core Product: Nearly every member touches Core Product surfaces every time they open the app: transactions, budget, reports, recurring, accounts, dashboards, goals, forecasting, filters, and retail integrations. This is the foundation of how people interact with their money at Monarch, and there's always room to iterate for clarity, reliability, and usefulness. This role calls for strong consumer instincts, a high bar for craft, and the ability to manage a large, interconnected surface area without losing focus. A big part of the job is making complex, messy financial data feel simple and trustworthy.

  • AI: Most competitors are bolting AI on as a feature. Monarch is rethinking the product around it. This PM owns the AI-powered experiences where Monarch doesn't just show you your money but helps you understand it, act on it, and stay on top of it proactively. We're looking for a builder who has shipped AI-powered features to real users, uses AI daily in their own workflow, and can make sound calls about where AI adds member value versus where it creates noise or erodes trust. This role skews most toward early-stage, high-velocity environments and a demonstrable track record with AI product work.

When applying, please indicate which area is the strongest fit. We're open to candidates who could match more than one.

You'll Thrive Here If You:
  • Own a product area end to end, from identifying the opportunity to shipping, iterating, and being accountable for what happens in market

  • Translate ambiguous problem spaces into clear priorities, explicit tradeoffs, and a sequenced path forward that the team can move on

  • Widen the team's thinking beyond the immediate ask. You don't just solve what's in front of you; you design for what comes next

  • Hold a high bar for craft. You push beyond "does it work?" to "does it feel right?" and you carry that standard through every detail

  • Make decisions using quantitative data, qualitative research, and customer feedback, not to defer judgment, but to sharpen it

  • Show up in a way that makes teammates seek your input not because they have to, but because they want to. You make the team feel like it's winning

  • Communicate in a way that is clear, succinct, and proactive across engineering, design, GTM, and leadership

  • Push how we work forward. Find and leverage new technologies, AI, and workflows that make the whole team sharper, faster, and better connected

This Role Isn't The Right Fit If:
  • You're not excited to dig into the complexity of personal finance. The domain has a lot of logic, nuance, and cases and that should energize you, not slow you down

  • Your primary skill is navigating internal politics or driving stakeholder consensus

  • You prefer spending more of your time in strategic thinking and lean on others to execute

  • You thrive in process-heavy environments and need heavy scaffolding to function

  • You don't enjoy technical or systems-level complexity

Nice to Haves:
  • Experience in fintech, personal finance, or other trust-sensitive consumer domains

  • Background at an organization known for strong product craft and high-velocity execution

  • Experience at an early-stage or scaling startup where you were a hands-on builder

Typical Process:
  • Recruiter screen

  • Hiring Manager conversation

  • Virtual onsite (2–3 rounds)

  • Take-home assignment

  • Reference checks

  • Offer

Benefits :
  • Work wherever you want! As a fully remote company with no central office, we want you to work wherever you are happiest and most productive. Whether that’s out of your home, a co-working space, or elsewhere.

  • Competitive cash and equity compensation in a hyper growth, early stage company 🚀.

  • Stipend to set-up your ideal working environment.

  • Competitive Benefit Plans for employees based on your location (e.g. in the US we offer: Medical, dental and vision benefits and the ability to contribute to a 401k plan).

  • Unlimited PTO.

  • 3 day weekend every month! We take off the “First Friday” every month to focus on rest, recuperation, or just having fun!

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta

  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
