About Goodfire

Goodfire is a research company using interpretability to understand, learn from, and design AI systems. Our mission is to build the next generation of safe and powerful AI—not by scaling alone, but by understanding the intelligence we're building.
Scaling has proven powerful, but today's approach is fundamentally limited: we can't meaningfully understand, debug, or shape what models learn. Every engineering discipline has been gated by fundamental science and AI is at that inflection point now.

We're advancing the science of how AI systems actually work. Treating models as black boxes is an unnecessary handicap—we have access to the structures inside them, and understanding those structures lets us steer what models learn, make them safer and more useful, and extract the vast knowledge they contain. Our goal is to make AI that can be understood, debugged, and shaped like software.

Goodfire is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco with a team of the world’s top interpretability researchers and engineers from organizations like OpenAI and DeepMind. We're backed by over $200M from B Capital, Menlo Ventures, Lightspeed, Eric Schmidt, and others.

About the role

We're looking for a Product Marketing Lead to tell the Goodfire story to the AI researchers, engineers, and technical leaders who are building and training AI models. This role demands a rare combination: the technical credibility to engage deeply with an audience that trains AI models, the instinct to translate complex research into accessible stories, and the strategic vision to create a new category in the AI market.

This is a foundational role where you will define how the world understands what interpretability makes possible. That means owning our messaging strategy end to end: crafting positioning and messaging, orchestrating product launches, and shaping the broader market narrative around interpretability as a critical capability for the next generation of AI.

You will need to deeply understand our research, our product, and our market - translating frontier science into compelling value propositions that resonate with Heads of AI, CTOs, and research leaders at the companies building the most important models in the world.

Key responsibilities
  • Own positioning, messaging, and narrative: define how Goodfire and our platform are understood in market
  • Shape the category: establish an interpretability platform as a must-have capability in the AI stack through thought leadership, content, and strategic communications
  • Drive product launches: plan and execute launches that generate awareness and pipeline, from major research milestones to new platform capabilities
  • Build deep market intelligence: develop a rigorous understanding of the competitive landscape, buyer needs, and emerging use cases across verticals — and translate those insights into product and go-to-market strategy
  • Create sales enablement and field materials: arm our forward-deployed team with the positioning, demos, case studies, and collateral they need to win technical buyers
What you’ll bringRequired experience
  • Strong ability to translate highly technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for deeply technical audiences (researchers, ML engineers, Heads of AI).
  • Strong strategic instincts and the ability to build a go-to-market playbook from scratch in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
  • Experience speaking to deeply technical buyers at AI labs, frontier model companies, or research-driven organizations.
  • Scrappiness, speed, and a bias toward action. You ship, measure, and iterate — not deck-build.
Preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience owning product marketing end-to-end at an infrastructure, developer tools, or AI company - from positioning through launch execution and sales enablement.
  • Background as an early marketing hire at a high-growth startup, or experience building a product marketing function from the ground up.
  • Familiarity with the AI research landscape - interpretability, model training, alignment, and the broader ecosystem of labs and model developers.
  • Track record of defining or shaping a new product category.
Our values

Goodfire is looking for individuals who embody our values and share our deep commitment to making interpretability accessible. We are building a team first and foremost.

Put mission and team first

All we do is in service of our mission. We trust each other, deeply care about the success of the organization, and choose to put our team above ourselves.

Improve constantly

We are constantly looking to improve every piece of the business. We proactively critique ourselves and others in a kind and thoughtful way that translates to practical improvements in the organization. We are pragmatic and consistently implement the obvious fixes that work.

Take ownership and initiative

There are no bystanders here. We proactively identify problems and take full responsibility over getting a strong result. We are self-driven, own our mistakes, and feel deep responsibility over what we’re building.

Action today

We have a small amount of time to do something incredibly hard and meaningful. The pace and intensity of the organization is high. If we can take action today or tomorrow, we will choose to do it today.

Where we work

We are hiring for this position in our San Francisco HQ. We are in person 5 days a week, with one company-wide remote week per month.

What we offer

This role offers market competitive salary, equity, and competitive benefits.
The expected salary range for this position is $200,000 - $375,000 USD.

Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to join a vital mission at an important point in its trajectory — we are developing groundbreaking technology with a world-class team on the critical path to ensuring a safe and beneficial future for humanity. If you want to do your life’s work with us, even if you believe you do not meet every single requirement, apply now.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
