About this role

Job Purpose/Background:

We are looking for an Associate (or early stage of Vice President) to support the Private Market Solutions Product Strategy team. The candidate will support our fundraising efforts and existing client reporting by driving the realization of marketing/reporting materials for prospects/clients in Japan. They will partner with cross-functional teams including Client Business, Operation, Core PM, and local Legal & Compliance to deliver excellent client servicing. They will also support product development workstreams, to create and optimize product strategies that meet the evolving needs of our clients and the private market industry. The candidate will play a key role in developing and executing strategic initiatives that drive the growth and innovation of our private market offerings.

The Private Markets Product Strategy team is accountable for growing and retaining client investments across two of the Multi-Alts investment pillars: Alternative Portfolio Solutions (APS) and Direct Private Opportunities (DPO):

  • APS: runs portfolios of primarily private market alternatives via internal BlackRock investment teams, as well as external managers.

  • DPO: constructs portfolios of direct, private market investments in specialty and emerging assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help support business strategy for the Japan region: Working with current Multi-Alts PS and Investment team to implement and drive the strategic growth plan focused on prospects, identifying new investment opportunities and areas of focus within the region.

  • Relationship management and sales support: Support existing client relationships, as well as relationships with internal clients including BlackRock’s distribution teams.

  • Business development: Within the context of the regional business plan, identify new business opportunities, support engagement with prospective investors to drive growth of the platform.

  • Content/Marketing materials development: Organize materials (including reporting materials) and coordinate logistics for meetings with clients and prospects. Additional responsibilities include conducting the translation to Japanese and developing written content and marketing materials in support of prospect development and client relationship management.

  • Support implementing solutions: Support the project-management of the execution of structurally complex investment mandates, collaborating closely with partners across various functional teams (Legal, Compliance, Operations, etc.)

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of capital markets and marketable alternative investment strategies. Alternatives experience is preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in an investment-oriented role with a deep understanding of client segments and consultants, client experience preferred

  • Ability to creatively and proactively support capital raising activities and client relationship management for an institutional client base

  • Verbal and interpersonal communication skills, experience in presenting to clients and prospective clients would be additive

  • Language skills necessary: English and Japanese

  • Strong work ethic and professional disposition

  • Strong research and writing skills both in English and Japanese to clearly articulate sophisticated and complex concepts, ideas, and processes

  • Demonstration of critical thinking to build regional business plans

  • Strong project management skills, ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel and ability to develop familiarity and skill using proprietary technology.

  • CFA or CAIA additive
