WHO YOU ARE

You are key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and space sciences for the benefit of humanity by being tactical in focus. Section Honors, which recognize the outstanding work of individuals in their scientific discipline, are the bulk of awards within the overall AGU Honors Program; you will manage the operations for more than 80 various awards and 250+ committee volunteers, serving as liaison to 25+ Section selection committees.

You will primarily provide support for AGU’s Section Honors program activities and to also provide administrative and operational support for other honors and recognition activities, and for selected Section support initiatives. You will take lead-role responsibilities for defined Honors initiatives, as well as day-to-day activities and tasks supporting the Sections Honors program. You will also contributes to cross-functional departmental projects and initiatives by coordinating defined activities, as needed. The incumbent reports to the Manager, Honors.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Coordinate activities for the Section Honors program to meet objectives and goals and ensure its effective execution and administration
    • Set up and manages the awards nomination submission and review portal for the Section Honors Program.
    • Screen nominations for eligibility and completeness.
    • Serve as a staff liaison to all the Section selection committees for this program.
    • Provide staff support for Section Honors canvassing committees.
    • Coordinate and conducts trainings for the selection committees.
    • Maintain content for the Section Honors Program webpages.
    • Coordinate honorees memorabilia, travel reimbursements, and other prizes.
    • Act as a point of contact for the Digital Information team regarding technological resources needed to support program activities, committees and initiatives, and departmental projects.
    • Act as a point of contact for the Strategic Communications and Marketing team on implementing tactical plans for all Section Honors Program nominations campaigns, announcement of honorees, and initiatives in support of program activities. 
    • Provide staff and logistical support to full Honors Team, as needed.
    • Suggest processes, policies and procedures for Section Honors Program implementation.
    • Recommend strategic improvements to the Section Honors program, including consolidating and simplifying aspects of the program.
  • Support Annual Meeting planning and preparation related to Honors initiatives, including travel to the meeting to assist with Honors presence.
  • Perform other Section support activities, as needed.
  • Develop and analyzes compiled data.
  • In conjunction with staff and the Honors and Recognition Committee conducts periodic audit of the Section Honors portfolio.
  • Provide flexible operational support across the department in response to emerging needs, priorities, and special projects, leveraging expertise in program coordination, volunteer engagement, and administrative processes.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a project management position or related environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with association management systems (i.e., netForum), conference management software, and content management systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and success in leading programmatic activities to successful completion.
  • Professional customer service and interpersonal skills is a must.
  • Proficient computer skills to include word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and interact with constituents at many levels, such as program committees, esteemed pool of honorees, members and all levels of staff in a professional and courteous manner; and communicate effectively with Ph.D. scientists.
  • Ability to address stakeholders' requests in a professional and timely manner by responding promptly and effectively to questions.
  • Ability to prepare written correspondence that is intended for international authors who may have limited English communications skills.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and apply program policies, and make good decisions without direct daily oversight.
  • Ability to assist with follow-through on commitments and accept ownership of responsibilities and with utmost professionalism.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for accuracy and quality and / or fast pace.
  • Capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
  • Team player with ability to seek feedback and apply it to the job.

  • Full Time, Exempt position. This remote role is open to candidates living in many U.S. states (excluding WA, OR, and CA at this time).
  • The salary range for this position is    Min$57,991    Mid$72,801     Max$87,612
