Job Description
Minimum $20,000 Sign On Bonus being offered for external hires.
In this pivotal role, you will serve as both a technical leader and be responsible for cost and schedule, guiding FPGA teams through the architecture, design, test, and validation of systems with multiple high-reliability FPGA applications for ground, aerospace, and space-based systems. You will bridge the gap between complex digital architecture and project execution, ensuring that cutting-edge SoC designs are delivered on cost, schedule, and technical specification.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning, and strong execution.
What You'll Do:
  • Project Leadership & Agile Management
    • Scrum Master Leadership: Act as the Agile Scrum Master for the FPGA development team, facilitating daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure iterative progress and continuous improvement.
    • Jira Administration: Own the project backlog in Jira; translate high-level system requirements into actionable user stories and tasks, manage sprint velocity and tracking burndown charts to ensure predictable delivery.
    • Programmatic Oversight: Lead the team to deliver on project cost, schedule, and technical requirements, utilizing earned value reporting and risk-based decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Cross-Functional Integration: Lead a team including Electrical Systems, Mechanical Packaging, Circuit Design, Parts & Reliability, Radiation, and Production/Test Engineers.
    • Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear technical and programmatic roadmaps to both internal leadership and external customers (e.g., NASA, DoW, NOAA).
  • Technical Execution & FPGA Design
    • Architectural Leadership: Leading multiple SMEs in architecting complex FPGA SoC designs utilizing AMD (Xilinx) software and IP, focusing on SOC architectures, digital filters, image processing algorithms, and communication protocols balancing technical capability and programmatic needs.
    • Advanced Implementation: Apply innovative design techniques to create high-precision, radiation-hardened electronic systems for space flight applications.
    • Technical Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and roadmaps for future products, guiding junior engineers in VHDL/Verilog and System Verilog implementation.
    • Verification & Quality: Oversee the flow-down of system/subsystem requirements and ensure adherence to rigorous screening and qualification processes for "flight space qualified" electronics.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • 8 years of related experience in electronic systems development, with a proven track record of leading electronics development teams to meet performance goals.
  • Domain Expertise: Extensive experience in space flight electronics, radiation-hardened environments, and EEE parts for space applications.
