Job Description

Role: PTC Windchill Software Engineer
Location:  Menlo Park, California
Job Type: Contract (C2C/W2)
Interview: Phone/Video

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced PTC Windchill Software Engineer to design and build AI-native, agentic workflows that automate Product Lifecycle Management and New Product Introduction processes.
This role supports a Priority 2 initiative aligned to O1/KR6 focused on using AI agents to automate critical engineering activities, including part creation, Bill of Materials generation, and engineering change workflows.
The engineer will also build the integration layer required to connect the rebooted PTC Windchill platform with enterprise Master Data Management, sourcing, procurement, manufacturing, and downstream order-execution systems.
The PLM platform supports more than 120,000 parts and an increasingly complex product portfolio. The successful candidate will combine deep Windchill engineering expertise, enterprise integration skills, and practical experience with AI-enabled workflow automation to deliver scalable and production-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities
1. AI-Native PLM Workflow Development
•    Design and develop agentic workflows that automate high-volume PLM and NPI activities.
•    Build AI-enabled capabilities for:
o    Part creation
o    Part classification
o    Part metadata enrichment
o    Bill of Materials generation
o    BOM validation
o    Engineering change creation
o    Engineering change impact analysis
o    Workflow routing and approval
•    Implement human-in-the-loop controls for high-risk or business-critical decisions.
•    Develop explainable recommendations and traceability for AI-generated actions.
•    Ensure agents operate within approved business rules, permissions, and governance controls.
•    Support proactive and event-driven automation across PLM workflows.
2. PTC Windchill Software Engineering
•    Design, configure, customize, and enhance PTC Windchill applications.
•    Develop Windchill extensions using Java, Windchill APIs, services, workflows, and event frameworks.
•    Configure:
o    Parts and product structures
o    Lifecycle templates
o    Object types and attributes
o    Workflows
o    Change-management processes
o    Access controls
o    Business rules
o    Validation logic
•    Develop reusable components and technical frameworks.
•    Ensure customizations remain supportable and aligned with PTC-recommended architecture.
•    Optimize application performance and scalability for large PLM datasets.
3. Part-Creation Automation
•    Automate creation of new part records using approved engineering and business data.
•    Integrate with MDM systems to validate part numbers, classifications, naming standards, and ownership.
•    Prevent duplicate or incomplete part creation.
•    Apply required attributes, lifecycle states, classifications, and compliance metadata.
•    Implement exception handling and approval workflows for ambiguous or incomplete requests.
•    Maintain end-to-end auditability of automated part-creation decisions.
4. BOM Generation and Management
•    Develop intelligent workflows to create, validate, and update engineering BOMs.
•    Generate BOM structures from approved source data, engineering inputs, templates, or prior product configurations.
•    Validate component relationships, quantities, revisions, alternates, effectivity, and usage rules.
•    Detect missing, duplicate, obsolete, or incompatible components.
•    Support comparison of existing and proposed BOM configurations.
•    Enable controlled handoff from engineering BOMs to manufacturing and execution systems.
•    Ensure BOM automation supports increasing product and configuration complexity.
5. Engineering Change Automation
•    Build automated workflows for Engineering Change Requests, Engineering Change Notices, and related change objects.
•    Automate impact analysis across affected parts, BOMs, documents, products, suppliers, and downstream systems.
•    Route changes based on product, risk, cost, ownership, and organizational rules.
•    Generate recommended reviewers and approvers.
•    Support change validation, approval, implementation, and closure.
•    Provide status visibility and exception management"
