South Project is a nonprofit organization that empowers young mothers by offering mentorship, resources, and guidance in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment. We help them overcome obstacles, continue their education or pursue a trade, and build sustainable, independent lives for themselves and their children. Our vision is a future where young mothers feel supported, equipped, and empowered to achieve their goals and positively impact their communities.

We are seeking a Volunteer Public Relations & Brand Awareness Specialist to help increase South Project’s visibility and establish it as a recognized name in our space. This role is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling, community engagement, and strategic communication who wants to gain experience in PR, media outreach, and nonprofit marketing.

What You’ll DoPublic Relations & Media Outreach
  • Identify and build relationships with media outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers to promote South Project.

  • Write and distribute press releases, feature stories, and opinion pieces to increase media coverage.

  • Seek out speaking engagements, partnerships, and interview opportunities to establish thought leadership.

Brand Awareness & Community Engagement
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to increase South Project’s visibility and attract new members.

  • Create engaging content (social media, blog posts, newsletters) that communicates our mission and impact.

  • Monitor and participate in community discussions, forums, and online groups to spread awareness.

Event Promotion & Partnerships
  • Support the promotion of events, workshops, and initiatives that align with our mission.

  • Identify and develop collaborations with organizations, institutions, and community leaders to broaden our reach.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of public awareness campaigns and networking events.

What You Bring
  • Passion for nonprofits, community engagement, and social impact.

  • Strong storytelling, writing, and messaging skills.

  • Experience or interest in PR, social media, marketing, or communications.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with flexible hours.

  • Creativity in crafting compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
