Position Summary

The Quality and Risk Management Analyst plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the company’s retail operations functions. The role is primarily responsible, under intermittent supervision, for the repurchase response process and operational activities related to examination preparation. The role also provides support for credit and appraisal related questions as they relate to loan defect resolution.

Compensation

This role is a non-exempt position with a targeted salary range of $29.71/hour to $44.58/hour.

Compensation at Guild is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to local and federal minimum wage requirements, education, level of experience, and applicant’s geographical location.

Essential Functions

  • Act as a key point-of-contact for questions related to repurchases and loan defects as well as operational support for mortgage exam preparation.
  • Evaluate underwriting decisions and analyze customer’s loan-to-value ratio, debt-to-income ratio, credit report, application, income and assets, source(s) of down payment funds, and supporting documentation to identify potential resolutions to address loan defects and/or mortgage exam preparation.
  • Review appraisals to determine if they meet secondary market, investor, and company standards.
  • Act as 2nd reviewer to teammates for written responses to loan defects prior to submission to the agency/investor.
  • Act as a liaison between operations and QC to assist with resolving QC audit defects.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the company’s credit policies and procedures; make update recommendations when necessary.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and production using expertise to answer questions to resolve escalated issues.
  • Provide recommendations to changes in practice or procedures and execute accordingly.
  • Create and format internal support documents, including, but not limited to, matrices, job aids, checklists, based on information provided.
  • Assist with the monitoring, review and maintenance of specialized reports and remediation plans.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum five years experience.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Deep understanding of agency and regulatory guidelines (e.g., FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA).
  • Solutions oriented with the ability to understand complex loan scenarios.
  • Expert-level knowledge of overall mortgage lending processes, including underwriting, loan processing and closing.
  • Expert-level knowledge of valid documentation related to the processing consumer mortgage applications (e.g., tax returns, financial statements and records, verification of income and deposits, etc.).
  • Expert-level knowledge of underwriting and regulatory requirements; detailed knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory requirements/guidelines related to consumer mortgage lending and internal processes and controls.
  • Ability to think critically, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions, and determine the downstream impact of decisions and associated risks.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment; strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Wiki, collaborative cloud-based programs, and third-party software applications required.

Supervision

Job Scope:  Responsible for understanding the department/functional area objectives and goals and how own job contributes to achievement of these goals; may contribute insights and ideas on policies, processes, procedures, and efficiency; may recommend changes and enhancements based on analysis and evaluation of circumstances.

Complexity:  Problems encountered are often complex and may involve significant resource coordination and availability, evaluating and resolving discrepancies with data, analyses, processes, etc. using own expertise and judgment.

Impact:  Decisions and actions have a direct impact on the outcomes of the department, projects, and programs.

Interaction/Supervision:  Work is monitored under general supervision of supervisor and by following established, specific procedures described by supervisor; May act as a guide to less experienced staff in similar role and/or student employees; generally does not have formal responsibility for overseeing others.

Requirements

  • Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
  • Office environment – moderate noise, no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Travel 5% or less.
  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
  • Work is primarily performed during the business week, Monday - Friday.
