About Allocate

Allocate is transforming private market investing by enabling RIAs and family offices to seamlessly discover, model, and manage their private market exposure.

Our platform combines curated fund and co-investment opportunities with institutional-grade infrastructure. Through a single, data-rich digital experience, clients access top-tier opportunities across venture capital, private equity, private credit, and other private asset classes—backed by powerful tracking, analytics, and administration tools.

About the Role

Allocate is looking to add a Quality Engineer II to the team! In this role, you’ll be expected to leverage AI tools like Claude Code as a core part of your development workflow. We expect you to lean into these tools to accelerate test creation, expand coverage, and drive quality at the pace our product demands.

Quality engineering here is automation-first and built around the test pyramid. We have a strong foundation of automated tests in our CI/CD pipeline, and we’re continuously expanding our coverage at every layer. We look for the right type of test at the right level of the stack, and we expect our Quality Engineers to bring that same thinking to everything they ship.

Manual testing is not the default here. You’re expected to automate by default and apply sound judgment about the rare cases where hands-on manual validation genuinely adds value (particularly for high-risk or complex scenarios that automation alone can’t fully cover).

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Use AI tools like Claude Code as your primary development environment for generating, maintaining, and refining automated tests

• Build and maintain automated coverage across E2E user flows and REST APIs, contributing to our E2E automation framework

• Collaborate with engineers and product to plan test cases and coverage for new features and user stories

• Troubleshoot failures, investigate logs, and help drive root cause analysis on bugs surfaced in testing or production

• Become a subject matter expert in your product domain, learning its business rules, user workflows, and edge cases well enough to anticipate where things are likely to break

• Champion quality across the team, pushing for testability, meaningful coverage, and quality standards early in development rather than at the end

• Stay current on AI capabilities in testing and quality (e.g. AI-driven exploratory testing, agentic test generation, self-healing tests) and share what works with the team

• Actively participate in team meetings and maintain a strong presence across remote communication channels

Must Have Experience

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code); you should be comfortable using AI to accelerate your workflow and open to continuously evaluating new tools as they emerge

• Strong instincts for how to break web-based software (a “breaker’s mindset”) and the judgment to know when automation covers a scenario vs. when manual validation is warranted

• Browser automation experience with Playwright (or other modern test frameworks)

• Experience testing REST-based web applications, front and back end (including using API testing tools like Swagger UI)

• Working proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript

• Working knowledge of Git and source control workflows

• Ability to write and execute SQL queries to verify data and investigate issues

• Experience troubleshooting test failures by interpreting stack traces, verifying data in logs, and reproducing bugs

• Strong communication skills with a pragmatic and proactive attitude

• 2-4 years of Quality Engineering experience

Nice to Haves

• Experience building or refining prompt engineering workflows for test generation

• Experience with agentic workflows (running async coding agents, MCP integrations, custom tooling around LLMs)

• Familiarity with CI pipelines

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

Essential Values & Culture

• Providing our clients with a world-class experience is our number one priority. We obsessively search for ways to improve the experience for our clients and partners. This requires extraordinary response times, proactivity, and ensuring that everything we do, from product strategy to offline communications, is a top-tier client experience.

• Challenge convention: Instead of detailing all the reasons why an idea may not work, we constantly question things to determine how a viable idea may be put into motion.

• Commitment to continuous improvement: We find ways to personally scale each day by pushing ourselves up the learning curve.

• Meritocracy, not politics: We place the utmost value on results and rewards through merit, not reward actions driven by political agendas or behavior.

• Civil Discourse is embraced: We believe open, intellectually curious conversations are required to consistently arrive at the best decisions. Respect is paramount in our dealings with one another, but our mission is always to get the right answer collectively, not to be right.

• Embrace technological change: We adopt tools and techniques that make us faster, smarter, and better. We stay open to innovation, especially around AI and automation, and drop outdated methods without hesitation. This includes actively integrating AI assisted development tools into your daily workflow and staying current as the landscape evolves. Complacency kills progress — we value adaptability and curiosity.
