The Company:
Marigold is a fast-growing marketing technology company helping growing businesses build stronger customer relationships through its three core platforms: Emma, Campaign Monitor, and Vuture. We deliver powerful tools for email, SMS, and marketing automation that elevate engagement and drive real results. Marigold is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee with offices in Sydney and London.
The Role:
At Marigold, we’re seeking a Research & Development Intern to join our Engineering organization. This internship is designed for students majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems Management who are interested in how software systems are researched, designed, and evolved within a real business context.
In this role, you’ll support early-stage research and development initiatives by helping explore system behavior, evaluate technical ideas, and understand how engineering decisions are informed by customer needs, scalability, and business impact. You’ll work alongside engineers and product partners to contribute to experimentation, proof-of-concept work, and technical discovery in a SaaS environment.
What You’ll Do:
Participate in research and development efforts by exploring system behavior, workflows, and technical approaches
Assist with analyzing how frontend and backend components interact within the Emma platform
Help evaluate ideas, enhancements, or technical concepts through research, documentation, and experimentation
Contribute to proof-of-concept work, prototypes, or small development tasks under the guidance of experienced engineers
Learn how business requirements and customer needs inform technical design decisions
Observe and participate in team ceremonies such as planning sessions, reviews, and retrospectives
Collaborate cross-functionally to understand how engineering, product, and business teams work together
About You:
You’re naturally curious and enjoy digging into how systems work and why they were designed a certain way. You’re interested in research, experimentation, and connecting technical concepts to business use cases. You may not be pursuing a traditional computer science degree, but you’re excited by technology, data, and systems, and you enjoy learning through exploration and hands-on experience.
Ideal Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a B.S. in Business Administration, Information Systems Management, or a closely related field
Strong interest in research and development, systems thinking, and business technology
Exposure to foundational programming or scripting concepts through coursework or self-directed learning
Comfort working with data, tools, and technical documentation
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners
Compensation:
This is an hourly internship role with a pay rate of $20/hour.
The compensation range represents the pay the Company reasonably expects to offer for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, geographic location, and applicable law.
