The Role

We’re looking for our first Founding Recruiter to lead all things talent acquisition at New Lantern. You’ll own the full recruitment lifecycle across engineering, product, sales, and operations, while helping us build scalable recruiting processes from the ground up. This is a highly visible role working directly with the CEO and leadership team.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with hiring managers to define roles, write job descriptions, and set recruiting strategies.

  • Own full-cycle recruiting: sourcing, screening, coordinating, and closing candidates.

  • Build and maintain a strong top-of-funnel through creative sourcing (LinkedIn, referrals, events, etc.).

  • Deliver an excellent candidate experience at every stage.

  • Track recruiting metrics and continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Establish foundational recruiting systems, processes, and tools.

  • Represent New Lantern’s mission and culture to the external talent market.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of recruiting experience in a fast-paced startup or tech environment.

  • Proven success hiring across technical (engineering, product) and non-technical (sales, operations) roles.

  • Strong sourcing ability and creative approach to finding talent.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple open roles.

  • Passion for startups and excitement about building recruiting from scratch.

Nice to Have
  • Experience scaling teams from 10 → 50+ employees.

  • Familiarity with ATS tools (e.g., Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever).

  • Prior experience in health tech or regulated industries.

Why Join Us
  • Be the first recruiter at a fast-growing Series A startup.

  • Work closely with the founder and leadership team on company-defining hires.

  • Competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and benefits.

  • Opportunity to shape recruiting culture, brand, and processes from day one.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
