Northland Controls is seeking a mid-level Design Engineer to support our Project Management Office by developing high-quality, client-focused security designs. This role works closely with project managers, application engineers, CAD teams, and clients to ensure security solutions meet both customer requirements and Northland design standards.

The Design Engineer acts as a technical contributor and client advocate, balancing security requirements with environmental, architectural, and operational considerations to support clearly defined project scopes.

The ideal candidate will be located in the San Francisco Bay Area, working a hybrid work schedule.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain client design tools including template drawings, approved material lists, and design documentation.

  • Design physical security solutions, including product selection and system application, under established standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the adoption of global design standards and best practices.

  • Participate in client, architect, contractor, and internal project meetings to support the iterative design process.

  • Maintain design logs, client portfolios, and SharePoint sites with accurate and current design information.

  • Coordinate work with the global design centre and support design schedules and timelines.

  • Produce and review design packages including drawings, bills of materials, single-line diagrams, elevations, and device details.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Accurately track and allocate time to active projects using timesheets.

  Qualifications & Experience
  • Solid experience with low-voltage systems including physical security, life safety, network infrastructure, or related disciplines.

  • Hands-on design and coordination experience working with cross-functional teams, clients, architects, and contractors.

  • Experience contributing to design engineering processes and producing complete system design packages.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D, 2018 or later); Revit knowledge is desirable but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Design Management, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Approximately 3–7 years of experience with a security integrator or security design consultancy.

  • Working knowledge of enterprise security products such as Lenel S2, CCure, Genetec, Milestone, AXIS, HID, Mercury, Assa Abloy, Allegion, and similar platforms.

  Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to design quality.

  • Effective organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with appropriate guidance.
