The Group:

Morningstar Wealth is a core part of the broader Morningstar group, empowering investor success by delivering world-class investment products and technology solutions to advisors, individuals, and the businesses who serve them. As a global team, we build upon our renowned data, research, analytics and thought leadership to deliver intelligent, flexible, and scalable products into the hands of our clients. By bringing the best of Morningstar together, we remove friction, save time, and help clients achieve goals.

The Role:

As a Business Development Consultant at Morningstar Investment, you will partner with your Divisional Sales Director to expand advisory relationships and grow business across your assigned territory. This hybrid, Chicago-based role puts you at the intersection of trusted investment expertise and high-impact sales — building the advisor connections that fuel Wealth's continued growth as a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc

Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage a defined book of advisors with full accountability for sales activity execution, revenue contribution, and pipeline growth.

  • Leverage CRM as the operational backbone of the role — documenting all prospecting efforts, relationship touchpoints, pipeline stages, and follow-up commitments.

  • Influence, persuade, and educate advisors on the strategic benefits of the firm's investment offerings — leading with client outcomes and advisor business impact, and actively assisting in case design tailored to each advisor's specific client circumstances and portfolio objectives

  • Develop and maintain deep fluency across the full managed portfolios program — including investment philosophy, portfolio construction, performance attribution, and competitive differentiation.

  • Deliver a consistently high standard of communication across all channels — virtual meetings, phone, and written correspondence — with the presence, preparation, and professionalism expected of a field-level representative

  • Partner with the Divisional Sales Director to optimize territory coverage —while independently running virtual advisor meetings that reflect the firm's brand and consultative approach

  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Specialist and Investment Management team on any client-facing content that requires deeper technical or portfolio-level expertise

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree is required; concentration in Finance, Business, or a related field preferred

  • Minimum of 5+ years of financial services sales or asset management distribution experience

  • Proven ability to build, manage and develop a high-volume book of advisors relationships through phone and virtual engagement

  • Strong working knowledge of managed accounts, separately managed accounts (SMAs) and the advisory business model.

  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to build strong relationships across cross-function teams and colleagues.

  • Resilience and adaptability – comfortable operating in a fast-moving, performance-oriented environment

  • Series 65/Series 66 or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% for selective in-person meetings, events, or sales meetings

Target Cash Total Compensation Range: $156,050 - $280,900

Morningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to collaborate in-person each week as we've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis. In most of our locations, our hybrid work model is four days in-office each week. A range of other benefits are also available to enhance flexibility as needs change. No matter where you are, you'll have tools and resources to engage meaningfully with your global colleagues.
