Reliability Test Engineer (Various Levels)

Reliability Test Engineers at Lunar Energy will be responsible for ensuring the validation of the product throughout the entire lifecycle of our revolutionary home energy products. We are looking for people who are passionate about a more sustainable and energy independent future and want to make that vision a reality. An ideal candidate is someone who is curious, enjoys being hands-on and is comfortable with engineering in cross-functional disciplines.

Lunar Energy was founded to transition homes to 100% clean energy—making our electricity greener, our air cleaner and our energy more safe, secure and reliable for all. We’re a fast-growing, global company building the world’s best clean energy products to electrify all homes and connect communities to form clean, resilient virtual power plants.

On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…

  • Own the end-to-end testing activities for Lunar’s power converters (inverters, DCDC converters…etc) and battery systems — from test planning and test stand development to execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Engage with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers to develop comprehensive test plans that validate system performance.
  • Design and develop test stands for electrical, thermal and mechanical testing.
    • Define test stand architecture, specify appropriate test equipment and instrumentation
    • Collaborate with technicians to design and fabricate test stands.
    • Write Python scripts to automate testing and process large test datasets
  • Help drive failure analysis for failures originating from testing, assist in failure analysis for failures originating from the field
    • Extract key insights from test/field data to uncover insights and guide root cause
    • Recreate failure modes using physics-of-failure principles
    • Coordinate steps with FA lab for further analysis
  • Clearly document and communicate test results with crossfunctional team members, identify key insights and provide engineering recommendations from test data
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test infrastructure — from enhancing software tools to developing custom test equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for testing high-voltage systems

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering physics required. Concentration in mechatronics/robotics is a plus.
  • Strong fundamentals in electronics/circuit analysis, heat and mass transfer and static/mechanics of materials required
  • Experience with electrical test equipment like power supplies, data acquisition systems…etc as well as standard electrical diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes….etc required
  • Python or equivalent programming experience required. Experience with object oriented programming, state machines and test automation is a plus
  • Basic mechanical design experience/familiarity with CAD software is a plus
  • Experience working with power electronics or battery systems testing is plus
  • Strong sense of curiosity and ownership

Benefits:

We’re dedicated to creating a remarkable employee experience. At Lunar, competitive base pay is one part of our total compensation package.
