Overview
The Research Analyst will support SemiAnalysis coverage of wafer fabrication equipment suppliers and chip foundries. This includes:
Modeling, forecasting, wand advising clients on these topics
Representing SemiAnalysis at semiconductor industry conferences and supplier events across the world, often in San Francisco or Asia.
Contributing as a named author to SemiAnalysis publications, including research notes read by key decision makers in the industry and our newsletter, the #1 in technology on Substack.
This role is hybrid, with a primary office location in San Francisco. The analyst is expected to work regularly from the San Francisco office while collaborating with team members across the US and APAC.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain detailed financial and industry models covering wafer fabrication equipment vendors and foundries.
Perform in-depth research on the semiconductor and AI industries, including market trends, technological advancements, and competitive landscapes.
Follow earnings, news releases, important product trends and technological developments related to coverage industries and companies.
Assist in the preparation of research reports, presentations, and other deliverables for clients.
Qualifications
0 to 4 years of experience in equity research, public markets investing, semiconductor industry analysis, or a closely related role.
Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
Demonstrated ability to build and audit three statement financial models and link them to industry drivers such as capacity, pricing, and capital intensity.
Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing concepts, or a clear track record of rapidly developing technical domain expertise.
Advanced proficiency in Excel for modeling and data analysis. Familiarity with Python for data processing or automation is preferred.
Experience creating clear, data dense presentations using PowerPoint or equivalent tools.
Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain manufacturing processes, equipment dynamics, and financial implications in precise language.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple workstreams, and operate effectively in a hybrid work environment with a San Francisco office base.
High standards for accuracy, integrity, and source transparency. Full professional proficiency in English is required; additional languages are beneficial.
