Position: Research Reporting & Business Analyst I

Department: Research Finance

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Remote

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Research Reporting & Business Analyst I supports research finance and administrative leadership by developing, maintaining, and analyzing research metrics, dashboards, and operational reports to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent data-driven decision-making. This role consolidates research reporting and analytics functions into a centralized resource, assisting with data quality reviews, financial and operational analysis, and process improvement initiatives across the research enterprise. The position operates under general supervision, exercises independent judgment in data analysis and reporting, and impacts research leadership, departmental operations, and institutional reporting accuracy.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare research metrics, dashboards, and recurring reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery (20%).

  • Analyze monthly research financial and operational reporting, identify risks, trends, and opportunities, and communicate findings to leadership with recommended actions (18%).

  • Maintain reporting schedules and tracking tools for institutional and departmental deliverables to ensure timely submission of required research reports (10%).

  • Conduct data analysis of research administration and operational performance using multiple datasets to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement (15%).

  • Support development and maintenance of research dashboards and data visualization tools in collaboration with research data and analytics teams (10%).

  • Perform data quality reviews, identify discrepancies, and collaborate with relevant teams to resolve issues and improve data integrity (10%).

  • Support ad-hoc reporting requests from senior leadership and department chairs, including tracking, analysis, and recommendations for reporting enhancements (8%).

  • Assist in the development of indirect cost rate proposals, fringe analysis, and research space survey reporting by preparing data summaries and reconciliations (5%).

  • Maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and content for research reporting resources and web-based tools to ensure accuracy and accessibility (4%).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Public Health, Health Administration, or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and 1+ years of relevant experience in research, finance, data analysis, or reporting.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in research administration, healthcare finance, or institutional reporting environments; familiarity with dashboards, data visualization tools, and large dataset analysis is highly desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools

  • Experience with reporting and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) preferred

  • Ability to interpret and translate complex data into clear, actionable insights

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines and priorities

  • Understanding of research administration, financial concepts, or healthcare operations preferred

  • Collaborative mindset with ability to work across teams and levels of leadership

Compensation Range:

$56,000.00- $78,500.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
