At Temasek Laboratories@NTU, our mission is to undertake cutting-edge research in defence science and technology, driving new solutions and advancements across various research areas, including Microsystems Technology, Hardware Assurance, Signal Processing, Advanced Materials, Advanced Laser Technology, and Emerging Technologies.

We take immense pride in our people, recognizing them as our greatest asset. Committed to nurturing professional development, we support personal aspirations and growth. Furthermore, we advocate for a healthy work-life balance, fostering yearly engagement and team bonding activities.

We invite you to join our Centre for Communications and Signal Processing as a Research Scientist.

This centre focus on developing advanced communications and signal processing capabilities for the Singapore defense community. The four key research areas are sensor array, signal processing systems, urban sensing and signal research.

We are looking for a Research Scientist with a strong foundation in all aspects of Satellite communications. The researcher is expected to contribute towards addressing the detection, classification and localization of satellite communication terminal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will be expected to lead and conduct research in passive RF sensing, specifically the detection, characterization, and parameter estimation of NTN waveforms from LEO satellite systems in harsh environments.

  • The candidate will be responsible for both theoretical development of waveform estimation methods and hands-on SDR experimental design to validate the developed methods.

  • Additional responsibilities include supervise interns and students; review state-of-the-art literature; plan and execute R&D activities to meet project objectives and deadlines; generate and publish novel scientific contributions and support research proposals.

  • Administrative responsibilities may include safety management, asset management, and other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Communication Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong expertise in wireless communications, digital signal processing, physical-layer waveform analysis, and passive RF interception, with experience in LEO satellite communications and NTN systems (e.g., Starlink, Iridium).

  • Proficiency in satellite link budget analysis, NTN architectures, orbital mechanics, and tools such as STK, GMAT, or Orekit for LEO pass and Doppler analysis.

  • Experience in wireless channel modelling for LEO satellite links, including atmospheric propagation effects.

  • Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB; C++ is an added advantage.

  • Knowledge of machine learning/deep learning for signal processing and receiver design is desirable.

  • Experience with SDR platforms, particularly Ettus USRP devices, and GNU Radio/UHD development is an advantage.

  • Strong publication record commensurate with career stage.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
