About Atomic Semi

Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.

It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.

We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.

Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.

We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.

Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.

About the role

This role is about turning theoretical plasma physics into real, working hardware. The RF Plasma Systems Engineer bridges process requirements and physical implementation: they understand how plasma should behave to achieve certain etch or deposition results, and then design the chamber, power delivery, and diagnostics needed to make that happen.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plasma systems and diagnostics tools.

  • Turn process requirements into chamber and RF power requirements.

  • Simulate CCP and ICP plasma systems.

  • Generate and/or consult on CAD for plasma systems. Select materials and work with machinists to build chambers

  • Develop technology roadmaps for RF and Plasma systems

  • Make critical system architecture choices

  • Develop lab tools and sensors with a focus on tool integration

Required Experience

  • Worked on plasma systems or high power RF systems for a few years

  • Experience with VI probes/RF power measurement

  • Hands on trouble shooting and development

Nice-to-have

  1. Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in plasma physics, electrical engineering, or a related field with emphasis on RF or plasma systems.

  2. Demonstrated portfolio or documentation of past work, especially where challenges were clearly defined and solved.

  3. Experience with plasma simulations (e.g., COMSOL, VSim, PIC codes).
