Job Description:

Robotics & Digital Solutions, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Robotics & Controls Engineer . This position is located in Santa Clara, CA.

J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. You'll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes.

The Robotics & Controls Engineer will join the wider Robotics & Controls Software team. We are a group of highly motivated roboticists working on the development of algorithms and productions level software that live at the heart of a complex electromechanical surgical system. We are responsible for a vast set of robotic functions: kinematic & dynamic analysis, motion generation, control algorithms, dynamic system response, tracking performance, rigorous software development etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and test robotic and control algorithms for complex electromechanical systems
  • Effectively develop C++ software in a real-time, safety critical environment
  • Actively participate in algorithmic, control, mechanical design discussions and code reviews
  • Assist w/ regulatory filings such as FDA 510(k) in accordance with Quality guidelines
Qualifications:
  • MSc in Robotics, ME, CS, EE, or equivalent field is required
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working on robotics or other complex electromechanical systems is required
  • Strong programming experience in C++ is a must, experience with Python and/or Matlab is required
  • Solid understanding of serial manipulator design, kinematics & dynamics and controls strongly preferred
  • Outstanding communication skills is strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 5%, domestic and international is required

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $106,000 - $170,775.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

  • Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
  • Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
  • Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
  • Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
