Build and own software connecting perception, planning, and control on real robot hardware. Develop tests, diagnostics, and logging tools to reproduce intermittent failures. Debug sensor and runtime issues with engineers deploying robotic workcells, and validate fixes directly on hardware. The role requires strong Python or C++ fundamentals, experience shipping software on robotic or hardware systems, and comfort debugging across software-hardware interfaces.

About Relling: Relling (YC S25) builds ready-to-deploy robot workcells for US manufacturers. We design and test in San Francisco and put systems to work on factory floors. This is a full-time, in-person role in Potrero Hill, San Francisco.

What you'll do: Build and own software that connects perception, planning and control on real robot hardware. Write tests, diagnostic tools and logs that make intermittent failures easier to reproduce. Work through sensor and runtime issues with the engineers bringing up each cell, and validate fixes on hardware.

What we're looking for: Experience shipping and supporting software on real robotic or hardware systems, with clear ownership you can explain end to end. Strong programming fundamentals in Python or C++ and sound engineering judgment. Comfort debugging across software and hardware interfaces, using measurements and tests to find root causes.

ROS/ROS 2, computer vision or robot motion experience is useful; a specific middleware background is not required.

How to apply: Apply with your resume and a short description of a system you built or shipped. Project links are optional. Tell us what you owned, what failed and how you tested the fix.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
