Biotechnology is rewriting life as we know it, from the medicines we take, to the crops we grow, the materials we wear, and the household goods that we rely on every day. But moving at the new speed of science requires better technology.
Benchling’s mission is to unlock the power of biotechnology. The world’s most innovative biotech companies use Benchling’s R&D Cloud to power the development of breakthrough products and accelerate time to milestone and market.
Come help us bring modern software to modern science.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Sales Development Leader, you'll build and lead the teams that fuel Benchling's pipeline—both our outbound & inbound SDR and ISR motion. You'll hire, coach, and develop early-stage sales professionals who create opportunities with the world's leading biotech companies, then grow them into Benchling's next generation of Account Executives. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on coaching: you'll optimize processes, scale successful plays, and create a culture where top performers thrive.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build and develop high-performing SDR and ISR teams through effective hiring, coaching, and career development that creates a clear path from SDR to AE

  • Design and execute scalable outbound and inbound sales development strategies that drive consistent pipeline generation

  • Partner with Marketing and Sales leadership to optimize lead routing, qualification criteria, and handoff processes that maximize conversion rates

  • Establish team performance metrics and accountability structures, consistently achieving quarterly targets

  • Analyze performance data in Salesforce and SalesLoft to identify trends, diagnose issues, and drive continuous improvement

  • Create motivation systems and incentive programs that drive the right behaviors and celebrate wins

  • Foster a high-feedback culture where constructive input is delivered immediately and regularly, accelerating individual growth

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2-3 years in Sales Development or Inbound Sales at a high-growth SaaS company

  • 1+ year managing Sales Development teams with a track record of hitting targets

  • Proven ability to coach sales professionals—you notice the small adjustments that unlock performance and help people level up

  • Deep operational rigor: you live in Salesforce dashboards, love finding the levers that accelerate growth, and make data-driven decisions

  • Track record of building repeatable processes that scale as teams grow

Nice to have:

  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare IT, or technical SaaS environments

  • Familiarity with multi-product or complex buying journeys

  • Background progressing from SDR → AE → Manager (you've walked the path)

  • Ability to leverage the MEDDICC sales methodology
