Summary

Headquartered in sunny Los Angeles, GrayMatter Robotics is a well-capitalized AI robotics startup serving the manufacturing industry.  We empower shop floor workers with our smart robots that assist with tedious and ergonomically challenging tasks, specifically in automated surface finishing. Our proprietary GMR-AI™ software is integrated with state-of-the-art industrial robots, sensors, and tools to create application-specific turnkey solutions for customers through a Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) model.

We help manufacturers improve the quality of life for their workforce while increasing production capacity, and reducing scrap, repair, and rework costs. As a Sales Development Representative you will join our Marketing Team to identify and initiate conversations with potential clients while creating opportunities for our sales team.

This role is based onsite in our Carson, CA office.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, research, and qualify potential customers in the manufacturing industry. This includes creatively sourcing new leads, potentially leveraging skills in AI or LLM prompting to enhance research and outreach, and effectively re-engaging with past contacts in our CRM.

  • Develop and execute high-volume, multi-channel outreach strategies (including cold calling, personalized emails, and social media) to engage potential customers and generate initial interest in GrayMatter Robotics. You'll need to find inventive ways to reach key decision-makers.

  • Develop a deep understanding of our products and services to clearly and concisely articulate their value, focusing on pitching an initial discovery meeting rather than a direct product sale.

  • Engage with prospects to understand their business challenges, operational needs, and potential fit for our robotic solutions, qualifying them for the next steps with Account Executives.

  • Skillfully schedule appointments, demos, or meetings for the sales team with qualified leads.

  • Maintain and update accurate records of all prospect interactions and lead status in the CRM system.

  • Assess the needs and requirements of potential leads to determine their suitability as prospects. Engage with prospects to understand their business challenges and requirements, effectively communicating how our robotic solutions can address their needs.

  • Be prepared to adapt your approach as the team grows and strategies evolve. While we value results over strict call volume now, an increasing focus on metrics is anticipated to help us scale.

  • Provide regular feedback and insights on lead quality, market conditions, and campaign effectiveness to the sales manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • You have 1-2+ years of experience in a sales-oriented role, business development, or customer-facing position, with a proven track record of outbound prospecting (including cold calling and email).

  • With your 2+ years of experience conducting outbound and cold-calling outreach, you have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages and engage effectively over the phone and email. environments or proactively developing new processes from scratch.

  • You understand that "no" is part of the process and can maintain a positive attitude and determination even after facing multiple rejections. You're driven by results.

  • You possess a "can-do" mindset and have a knack for figuring things out, even with limited context. You're comfortable tackling challenges head-on and finding creative solutions.

  • You're a "sponge" who can absorb new information rapidly, adapt to feedback, and quickly hone your pitch and outreach techniques.

  • You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and processes.

  • You have great time management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.

  • Must secure work authorization in the United States and maintain ongoing work authorization beginning at the time of hire through the entirety of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing industry processes, particularly within surface finishing and treatment.

  • Experience with automation technologies or working in robotics/startup environments.

  • Experience using sales tools/platforms (e.g., HubSpot, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator).

  • Experience in a role where you've seen your efforts directly contribute to building or refining sales processes.

  • Interest or experience in leveraging AI tools or LLM prompting for research and communication.
