As a member of the Areté team, the Scholar Success Manager will support the execution of Areté Rising’s LOC Scholars program. As the inaugural staff person in this role, the Scholar Success Manager will play an integral role in co-designing and implementing the LOC Scholars college advising and college success programming. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and/or 2-5 years of professional work experience in college admissions, academic or career advising or teaching, a solutions-oriented, collaborative approach to working on a team, and a desire to work in a start-up environment for social good.

Key Responsibilities

The Scholar Success Manager’s key responsibilities will revolve around implementing scholar programming and supporting students in the LOC Scholars program. Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

The Scholar Success Manager will:

  • Co-design and implement all aspects of pre-college, college, and alumni programming, including college counseling and ongoing college success support.

  • Support a caseload of students throughout college application, selection, attendance, and graduation (starting with 21 students and growing to approximately 30).

  • Build relationships with students through regular check-ins (at least twice per semester and once over the summer), with additional communication as needed.

  • Review quarterly scholar submissions and provide follow-up resources as appropriate.

  • Maintain detailed case notes from student interactions and keep the program lead informed of student progress, challenges, needs, and recommendations.

  • Support in-person and virtual events including Scholars Weekend.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or 2-5 years professional work experience.

  • Professional experience in college admissions, academic and/or career advising, or teaching.

  • Current knowledge of the college admissions landscape and student development and career advising theories and strategies.

  • Experience with event coordination and execution.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Confident, resourceful, energetic, curious, discrete, team player.

Other Details
  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per month (may vary)

  • Location: Based in Los Angeles, this is a primarily remote position with some required in-person events and meetings throughout the year.

  • Reports to: Vice President of Grants & Initiatives

  • Compensation: $30-40 per hour based on experience
