General Description

The SecOps Engineer is responsible for the implementation, optimization, and operational support of security operations technologies and workflows, with a focus on SIEM platforms, detection engineering, and security telemetry.
This role operates within a consulting delivery model and supports client engagements across multiple environments, contributing to architecture assessments, data onboarding, detection development, and platform optimization initiatives. The SecOps Engineer works under the guidance of senior engineers and consultants while executing hands-on technical activities and contributing to client deliverables.

SIEM Data Engineering & Onboarding

Configure and support ingestion of security telemetry into SIEM platforms. Assist with onboarding data sources using supported ingestion methods (agent, API, syslog, native integrations). Implement parsing and field extraction logic (regex, JSON, key-value). Support normalization of data into standardized schemas (e.g., CIM, ECS, UDM). Validate data quality including field completeness, consistency, and timestamp accuracy.

Detection Engineering Support

Develop and tune detection rules within SIEM platforms. Assist in mapping detections to MITRE ATT&CK. Support testing and validation of detection logic. Identify gaps in detection coverage based on available telemetry. Assist in reducing false positives through tuning and refinement.

SIEM Platform Operations & Optimization

Support configuration and maintenance of SIEM platforms. Assist in troubleshooting ingestion, parsing, and performance issues. Contribute to platform optimization efforts, including data reduction and query performance. Monitor data pipelines and identify ingestion or processing failures.

SOAR & Automation Support

Assist in the development and maintenance of SOAR playbooks. Support integration between SIEM, endpoint, and cloud platforms. Contribute to automation of enrichment and response workflows. Troubleshoot playbook failures and integration issues.

Security Architecture Review (SAR) Support

Participate in client interviews and technical discovery sessions. Assist in documenting current-state architectures and workflows. Support analysis of SOC processes, detection coverage, and data architecture. Contribute to the development of findings and recommendations.

Required Experience and Education: 

  • High school diploma + 5 years of experience or BS/BA + 2 years of experience
  • 2–5 years of experience in security operations, SIEM engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one SIEM platform.
  • Exposure to detection engineering or SOC workflows.
  • Experience working with log data and security telemetry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across multiple systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a client-facing consulting environment. Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Embraces emerging technologies, including AI tools, to work smarter, solve problems, and drive better business outcomes.
  • SIEM vendor certifications (Splunk, Google SecOps, Elastic, etc.), SOAR vendor certifications (Splunk SOAR, XSOAR, Fusion, SentinelOne HyperAutomation, Torq, Tines), Observability vendor certifications (Cribl, Onum, Databahn, Dynatrace, Datadog).

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 10% travel

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work
  • Substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers for a minimum of 8 hours a day
  • Required to have close visual acuity to view computer terminal and/or extensive reading for a minimum of 8 hours a day
