Senior Accountant – Compensation, GL & Budgeting Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid) | Department: Finance & Accounting | Compensation: $100K–$120K+ discretionary performance based bonus

About the Role Financial Technology Partners is a leading fintech-focused investment bank headquartered in San Francisco. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team in a high-impact role with broad ownership across compensation accounting, budgeting, general ledger management, and month-end close. This position reports directly to the VP of Finance and offers meaningful exposure to the full scope of firm operations, including our UK entity.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong accountant who operates as a strategic thought partner to Finance leadership — someone who takes pride in precision, brings intellectual curiosity to process improvement, and is looking to deepen their expertise within a specialized, well-regarded firm. We are a team that embraces technology and expects our people to as well.

Responsibilities

Compensation Accounting Support the annual compensation budgeting process, including bonus memo preparation for deal-team and support staff. Reconcile compensation-related liability and benefit accounts and ensure accuracy and consistency across a complex compensation structure typical of an active advisory practice.

Budgeting & Financial Planning Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the firm's annual operating budget, including departmental expense budgets and headcount-driven cost projections. Support monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis, prepare variance commentary for leadership review, and maintain rolling forecast models that reflect current business activity. Collaborate cross-functionally with department heads to gather inputs and ensure budget assumptions are well-documented and supportable.

Month-End Close & General Ledger Own key components of the monthly close process, including intercompany entries, prepaid and fixed asset schedules, lease amortization under ASC 842, bank and credit card reconciliations, and business tax accruals. Support UK VAT filing obligations in coordination with external advisors, providing exposure to multi-jurisdictional accounting.

Audit & Compliance Maintain audit-ready workpapers on an ongoing basis and serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors during annual audit cycles, with a focus on compensation, budgeting, and assigned GL areas. Uphold the documentation and control standards expected in a regulated financial services environment.

Qualifications

  • CPA required
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience; Big 4 or nationally recognized public accounting firm background preferred
  • Strong command of US GAAP, with emphasis on general ledger, budgeting, and accrual accounting
  • Experience supporting annual budget preparation and monthly variance analysis in a professional services or financial services environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP, and complex formula construction
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Campfire, or comparable platforms; familiarity with Campfire a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) in a professional accounting or finance context — required; we are an AI-forward team and expect our people to actively leverage these tools in their day-to-day work
  • Exposure to international accounting, multi-entity structures, or VAT filings a plus
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to operate independently in a deadline-driven environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $100K–$120K, commensurate with experience
  • Performance-based bonus eligibility
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401K contributions/matching program
  • Hybrid work arrangement based in San Francisco
  • Firm-sponsored events including holiday parties, team outings, and company-wide town halls
